I guess you have to be familiar with metroid randomizer runs? Without context it doesnât make any sense to me either.
The Super Metroid Map Randomizer rearranges the map of the game into a new shape using all the existing rooms from the original game. People do races where they try to complete randomized maps as quickly as possible (without having played them before).
In the lowest layer of that video, Zelda 3 runner Andy enters a superheated Norfair very early in his run (the tileset is different as a result of a customization option). He barely has enough energy to make it to the other side of the room. He doesnât know if the next room is another heated room, or a dead end that would require him to double back. In either of those cases, he would lose a substantial amount of early-game progress to an easily avoidable death.
Andy goes for it anyway, and is rewarded for it with an energy tank and the varia suit (which provides heat protection). He ends up winning the race.
Super Metroid world record holder oatsngoats wouldnât find the varia suit until much, much later and lost the race as a result.
Oats watched Andyâs race footage afterwards to see how he won by such a large margin, resulting in a very theatrical meltdown. Someone then immediately sent that clip to Andy, and he watched it on stream.
Hope this helps.
