Add me to the potential pokemon list, though I know I’m not the easiest to read.
Weren’t you a sweeper at some point? I think that means you need to be some kind of a psychic-type sweeper
No.
You are the only one who cannot be a pokemon.
Well.
I suppose.
If.
Maybe.
There may be a way…
The rest of you: okay.
Zmann, I totally remember you, because you chatted with me during my college radio show, and we talked about synthesizer envelopes.
Also, didn’t you make that cool Zelda overworld randomizer? Did you do anything with that?
Somehow I deleted my post where I said you would all be eternal magikarps.
But you will still all be eternal magikarps.
Except for you booji.
You’re still nothing.
Still need to do something with it. I might sit down some long weekend and plan out a design for it; right now there are too many moving parts and it’s a pain to balance. I need to simplify it a bit.
I would love to be a pokeyman
Y’okay.
Were you an SB poster? Guys, if you were an OG SBer and have a new handle now, just let me know who you were.
@Gary Oldman Dwarfism, I think of you as the poster that grew up really near to where I grew up, who likes a lot of the same comedy podcasts that I do, and never seems to get into conflicts with anybody. Unfortunately, none of these qualities translate particularly well to a poke-tulpa. I considered something “silly” like an ambipom to represent your comedy nerdness or the stag pokemon Sawsbuck to rep PA. However, I’m not crazy about either’s viability in the ring, and I found the personality associations sort of shallow.
Eventually, I decided to just follow my gut and assign you a pokemon that reminds me of you for somewhat mysterious reasons. I think part of it might be the stag-iness of its appearance, mixed with some less mundane elements that reflect a hint of magic.
Dwarfism, you are a Keldeo-Resolute, the rare, in-game-event-only unicorn with the much-coveted unique move Secret Sword.
Overall, your stats are quite good with a particular emphasis on Speed and–even moreso–Special Attack. So, off the bat, you’re something of an overachiever who has some physical aptitude that even you yourself may not fully acknowledge. Your Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk) leads you to lean towards your intellectual gifts. This mental power gives you the ability to be a very powerful attacker out of the gate, however, you lean towards a more cautious path. Instead of investing fully in Special Attack, making you a late-game Special Sweeper, susceptible to self-sacrifice, we’ll make you a bit bulky, fully investing in HP but also capitalizing on Speed while we’re at it. This makes you an unusually well-rounded individual–you still tend to excel where you have natural gifts, but you haven’t let them define you.
Gary Oldman Dwarfism (Keldeo-Resolute) @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Secret Sword
- Scald
These stats suggest a particular moveset for Keldeo: a Substitute Set-Up 'mon (similar to Gorblax). You enter, ideally without taking a hit, and immediately sacrifice 1/4 HP to set up your substitute. Your enhanced bulk makes the substitute worth setting up, as it will last more than one turn against most attackers. In that time, your leftovers will restore a bit of health while you gather yourself together. Battle can be stressful, but you find that you’re able to handle it with Calm Mind. This raises your Special Atttack by two levels, allowing you to think clearly, even during a confrontation. After that, you’re set up for a sweep: use Scald against any Fire or Rock pokemon–or just anyone you want a shot at Burning. Use your signature move Secret Sword against any pokemon that likely has weak Defense. Secret Sword has the unusual property of using your high Special Attack as its attack power, but attacking your enemy’s Defense (not Sp Def) stat. This means that unlike most pokemon, even though you’ve specialized in honing your mental abilities, you are able to use your cleverness to succeed physically. It’s also a STAB fighting move, so it’s super-effective against Normal and Dark types, which comes in quite handy in the OU metagame.
As a Water/Fighting type, your biggest fears are Psychics who might try to mess with your head or Grass types that you frankly find draining. You’re best coming out after an ally has sacrificed themselves, or against anything you resist, such as Dark, Steel, Fire, etc. With your speed as your ally, you’ll often be able to get your subsitute up befor even taking a hit.
Ultimately, you’re probably more cautious than you need to be. You have a tendency to protect yourself, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing: it gives you the opportunity to build up your true potential, at which point, you’re nearly unstoppable.
@Rudie, in the Select Button universe, you are the most OG of the OG: a long-time poster who has gone through many evolutions to become the person you are today. Over the years, you’ve proven to be quite formidable, and even after many generational shifts you remain a high tier favorite, without any real detractors or anything to say against you. You’ve also found yourself living a sort of dual life between Japan and the US, which would make the ability to circumnavigate the globe in only 16 hours particularly useful. For all of these reasons, you are a dragonite.
Though you’ve always seemed to be a physical bean poll, your poke-tulpa is quite bulky. We’ll invest heavily in your HP, heavily in Attack, and a bit in Speed. This makes you heavy hitter who’s not afraid to take a punch. If you absolutely must go first, you’ll use Extreme Speed (+2 priority) in the clinch. Your Dragon/Flying typing also makes you a great team player: you resist the main elements (Water, Fire, Grass) and are immune to ground attacks. You also happen to have quite a few elemental attacks, meaning that you can be used as a utility attacker, assigning you an attack for whatever element is least represented on the team.
Texican Rude (Dragonite) @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Atk / 20 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Extreme Speed
- Aerial Ace
- Roost
We’ll definitely give you Leftovers for reliable gradual healing as well as the excellent ability Multiscale. When you’re at full health, you only take half damage from attacks, making your a perfect pokemon to throw into the fray–again: great for the team. We’ll definitely give you Roost to keep your health high (50% heal), Extreme Speed so you’ll always attack first when you need to, Dragon Claw as your signature STAB, and for the final slot, we’ll just give you the mediocre Flying STAB Aerial Ace for now. We can always swap that slot out, depending on the needs of the team, substituting Earthquake, Fire Punch, Aqua Tail, Thunder Punch, etc.
Altogether, you’re a great, well-rounded pokemon–very likable and popular. You’ve got great stats, stopping short of the power of a legendary or a mega, which makes you great for an OU team.
Ah finally an efficient way to get to know everyone.
Here’s a special bonus 'mon that Gorblax requested via Facebook during this point in the original thread:
Oh my god.
Shuckle? My first thoughts were shuckle or smeargle–two “lame” pokemon that are competitively formidable through power of sheer annoyance.
In that sense, maybe he’s a durant? Durant has a really shit gimmick, in that it can give you its own ability, which causes you to move every other turn. You then switch to a pokemon like dugtrio or gothitelle who has an ability that doesn’t allow the pokemon to switch out.
That pokemon is then pretty much doomed. I got out of it someone once. Forget how. It was only tried on me once. Wish I recorded that battle, because this guy kept using dirty tricks I was unfamiliar with, but I fought my way out of all of them.
Anyway. Durant requires too much teamwork, and besides: infecting another person with your laziness isn’t really icy’s thing. He’s more the dugtrio: a troll that you can’t escape.
Okay, I think I’ve got it:
Wobuffet: Wobbuffet | XY | Smogon Strategy Pokedex
I would probably use the Uber build instead of the OU build and maybe try using a Focus Sash instead of the berries they give him, although those might be better hold out strategies. Mine make’s OHKO’s impossible, so you’re guaranteed to take down at least one pokemon. But if OHKO’s to wobuffet are rare or easy to control, I’d use their berry builds.
Basically, wobuffet is reviled for its cheapness, which others would argue is just another term for “effectiveness.” Once you enter against it, you can’t leave. It has high HP, so it’s hard to whittle down. It has two moves that allow it to return any damage it takes x2. So if deployed properly it can take down at least two pokemon–maybe your most powerful. If it had a heal move it would be downright evil. There are some more usage details, but you probably get the gist: it’s a troll. It locks you into a confrontation, and there’s very little chance that you get to leave it feeling good about yourself.
This is the build I’m discussing in the post:
Wobbuffet @ Focus Sash
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 80 HP / 176 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Encore
- Mirror Coat
- Counter
- Destiny Bond
Standard Uber build (usable in OU), except I use a Focus Sash as the item. Focus Sash allows you to survive an OHKO with 1 HP. For some Pokemon, that’s all you need.
Another match I wish I had recorded: a dude gets his Bisharp fully set up with x3 attack, takes out half my team, but it just so happened that I had a cloyster with a Focus Sash (the whole point of this team was to test it and another experimental build, so the team was a bit janky and unfamiliar in the first place). Being able to survive a OHKO has the hinge of an elaborate tide-turning plan, so it really does come in handy.
None of that makes sense to anyone, but it really was a thing of beauty. The best part was that the guy was shit talking the whole time (which is pretty unusual). Told me I’d already lost the match once he set up his bisharp and followed it up with “Does my team intimidate you?” In the end, he simply said, “I lost,” and quit just before the final blow.
Future Edit: Actually, I think it’s better to just follow the standard Uber build and go with the Custap Berry. Since these stats make wobbuffet tanky, it’s unlikely that it would be OHKO’d anyway, which makes Focus Sash a bit of a waste. Custap Berry allows you to go first once you’re down to 25% health. This perfect for wobbuffet, because it gives it a clear shot at using Destiny Bond, a move that takes your enemy down with you when you die. So, you’re returning your foe’s attacks with double damage and just when they’re about to kill you, you ensure their KO as well. Really annoying but effective stuff! Though I don’t think I will actually use Pikachu on our SB teams. Wouldn’t be right. Here’s the updated build:
I feel like my posting has fallen off too much to make me a viable candidate for pokétransformation.
That’s a dumb thing to feel. I’ll make you a pokemon.
intentionally wrong indeed
I was catrider
The program you’re using is my dream Pokémon game. I just want to fill out a skill sheet and get to it.
oh, shit, hi catrider!
Hiiiii <3
