please I need to know what the 50th most genesis game is, that wasn’t a joke
Panic on Funkotron whips sack, love that game. It’s definitely better than Bubsy.
Bubsy is faster than Sonic.
When I had too much money and bought a Jaguar in 2020 to play Power Drive Rally, I also got a copy of Bubsy 3. It really did feel like playing old Amiga platformers of my youth, without the cheat codes that the cracked versions came with. The level design confused me and I died all the time. I may have finished the first level. Or not. I’m not sure anymore.
I also got Plok as one of my first games when I got an SNES in 1994 along with Donkey Kong Country. The cover art sold me on it.
(one of the few cases where the Japanese cover art is worse)
I did finish the first island but always got stuck a short while after. I feel like I’d appreciate this game more nowadays, especially if I had some save states to save me from throwing the controller.
Zool, the Chuppa ‘Chump’.
To the max.
I played Zool as a kid because i tended to play things at the beginning and ends of ROM sets, and it’s pretty good, at least what i played. Kinda the opposite of Bubsy: I was surprised to find out it was a licensed game
also its possible i thought it was zoop, a game i was obsessed with but never actually got because my dad thought it was stupid
Zool is okay, it has its own sins owing to being in the “collect XX item wretch” school of Euro platformer design
it could be so, so much worse, especially when you consider that Zool is a pretty slippery handling dude
There is something specific about my gaming up bringing and that is that Japanese platforming never really set in as the legit dynamics of a Jumpman. Like when I play even Castlevania or Ghosts and Goblins it’s like " oh so…that jump angle? Cool." Metal Slug and Contra only feel real when I play them like fighting games. They are not platformers. Sonic is the only exception. Even Mario. Especially Mario.
Instead it is Jill of the Jungle and Jazz Jackrabbit that are the canon, also Hocus Pocus.
And that is why Zool feels like an actual ‘Yes, it’s a platformer’ game to me, and I just know Bubsy will be too when I play it. I just know, SB.

I forgot I made this thread. I’m here to post about Myanmar earthquake relief in another thread though.
Attention Bubsy fans, how do you feel about funding grassroots disaster relief? Lol
This is 100% accurate. I don’t think I ever played more than, like, 4 levels.
I think some people took my OP to mean that I absolutely love Bubsy.
It’s more that it’s a bad game that I enjoyed well enough as a kid, and I don’t think it’s much worse than other bad platformers at the time (as others have said).
Some might ask, “Why is that a statement that needs to be made?”
I think because Bubsy has been meme-ified to the point that the implication is that the games are some next level garbage, when really, yeah, they’re everything described in the thread: cynically designed and over-confidently over-hyped.
I also think it’s a good insight that it was probably Bubsy 3D that really sealed Bubsy’s meme and disasterpiece status.
I couldn’t be bothered to play past the first world, but you know what, the gliding is pretty neat. If Bubsy was likeable and the music wasn’t so godawful I could see myself being fond of the game!
However, why is Bubsy taken to a techno lava slide bonus world when he enter caves in a rock face? Did they try to make up a good reason or did they just not respect children? Good games are evocative, bad games just throw video game shaped shit together. I don’t like it.
Bubsy 3D looks so much more interesting…
why is Bubsy taken to a techno lava slide bonus world when he enter caves in a rock face?
it’s supposed to be the interior of a spaceship
because the Woolies (distressingly barefoot creatures rolling giant cheesewheels at your videobobcat) are aliens, you see
This post just reminds me how much STUFF happens in Bubsy.
You guys really aren’t giving it enough credit for making stuff happen. There’s lots of stuff to interact with.
Now is it in the right order or thoughtfully arranged? Well, that’s simply an unfair standard.
Also, I haven’t played any of this game in l, like, 6 years, and I’m not going to, even though I have an analogue Genesis thing with Bubsy on it.
I’m watching Better Call Saul for the first time.
What do you guys think about Better Call Saul?
Bob odenkirk should play bubsy when they make bubsy 3d: the cinematic experience
