is it worth engaging with black armory, tribute hall, other stuff from past seasons? or should I just focus on current season and shadowkeep? I hit 900 light pretty quickly and I’m kinda overwhelmed w the options for how to proceed

Depends on what specific pieces of gear you’re interested in really
The Beloved sniper rifle is well regarded, that’s a Menagerie-specific object, for instance

I’ve settled on every weapon I can farm that’s got some combination of Subsistence/Swashbuckler , Subsistence/Rampage, Feeding Frenzy/Multikillclip; looking through a resource like light.gg, that refined my shit-do-usefully-do list significantly

I’ve been using the bygones pulse rifle and sunshot, which seems to work well for pve? but I have no idea what the meta is really. I really want to try a heavy machine gun since iirc they were not in game last time I played…

The first black armory quest gives you hammerhead, a very good machine gun.

I would do what you want of the current season, get a few of the guns that go away in March, and then play what you want in terms of loot.

I love the jokers wild guns so I play gambit prime but no one would say this is the optimal play

Black Armory weapons are often the best in the game of their archetype. It’s worth forging a few pulse rifles, hand cannons, and LMGs at the very least.

Tribute Hall just gives you Bad Juju, which is shrug

Menagerie is the actual best way to grind good rolls for the guns that drop from it, because each completion once you’ve maxed out your chalice gives you 3-4 drops of the same piece of gear.

Sundial does the same, but for seasonal gear, which is less options for guns but more unique rolls.

I’d say grind sundial until you feel comfortable with the content and rolls, and then work on armory and menagerie.

First do your powerful challenges (complete strikes, gambit, nightmares, etc) each week though. You wanna hit 950 light so you can do the raid and higher end nightmare/strike stuff. It’s not urgent, you can take the time to just play content you like, but yeah.

Most important is just pick something and see it through. Destiny is stuffed to the brim with shit that asks for your attention, so it’s easy to get distracted. Better to “complete” an activity - finish all its quests and unlocks - than spread yourself thin

Don’t use two primaries if you can avoid it. Pick either bygones or sunshot as your primary, and use a special ammo weapon in your other slot. Special ammo guns are shotguns, snipers, fusion rifles, trace rifles, and breach grenade launchers.

Two primaries is okay for specific builds - anti champion ability builds for strikes - but you lose a ton of damage potential. It’s so useful having a shotgun or something that can instantly kill a major that’s threatening you or whatever.

Agree re: double primary for PvE, but in PvP a rifle and smg ain’t bad.

If you want a suggestion for a Sundial weapon, Martyr’s Retribution is a so far unique grenade launcher archetype that shoots in a line like Titan thermite grenades. I got one with auto-loading holster and demolitionist and it’s my main PvE weapon at the moment. (20 HVTs and 10 massacre medals away from reckoner (!!!))

If you’re missing “world drop” (non quest) exotics, check out Xur each weekend and slowly pick them up. The engram he sells is guaranteed one you don’t have if there are any left, albeit locked to the class you’re using.

To that point, go ahead and create two alts just for coverage. The season pass armor makes it trivial to keep three characters around and you can use them to leapfrog level.

@SLUGGER what kind of play modality interests you? All of this is geared to… gearing up but if you’re into looking for secrets, puzzles, competition, etc. there are other corners of the game.

thank you both, this is super helpful! I didn’t even realize that energy slot equips could use primary ammo now.

@doolittle I definitely want to raid at some point, I think the best time I had in D1 was doing wrath of the machine. the only thing that doesn’t interest me too much is endgame pvp stuff, like I did trials a few times near launch and mostly just found it stressful

I’m down to teach any raid in the game. All of them except Garden can be done at any light level, too

This unfortunately isn’t the case in high skill brackets. The one-shot potential of snipers and shotguns and fusions dominate.

welp

Bungie you have to try cloaking yourselves better because the internet is absolutely going to poke at anything

I love that they basically built a collaborative puzzle identical to the lore of Osiris searching the Corridors of Time with his echoes. Mapping non-euclidean space is SUCH A GREAT PUZZLE CONCEPT that I might steal it.

Also the reward being lackluster and making everyone mad is so Bungie I can’t help but love it

WHY WAS IT NOT MYTHOCLAST

IT WAS THE ONLY REWARD THAT MADE ANY SENSE

i hope you all get a fusion pistol so i can still be somewhat correct in my 5d space guess

Think it’s time I got the Izzy, dps monster that it allegedly is
Is the Shattered Throne do-able solo if you’re not a sweaty legend?

It’s kinda hard to solo without spending time making and mastering a build. You’ll probably need help.

FWIW it is a breeze with two or three people.

You’ll probably need help with the watchers on the Leviathan, too.

Watchers ain’t too bad, you can just grind the same underbelly room over and over.
