the phantom pain is genuinely my favorite metal gear precisely because the story gets out of the way and all you are left with is 100% grade A video game. it’s clearly unfinished but what’s there is a real good time without any of the fat or 10 minute monologues about how some supermodel got woefully turned into a mechanical octopus

Yeah, if your issue with MGS games is the plot… like don’t play Ground Zeroes? It is short but the plot is full of very bad things.
In MGSV if you get past the first hour or so the story mostly drops away for a dozen or so hours (and the opening bit is somewhat interesting on its own), that might be the safer bet.
I mean MGSV is the one in my possession so that’s the one I’mma gonna play
taken on its mechanics alone, MGSV is the best open world AAA game ever made
Zelda BOTW has better overall “map traversal” but i didn’t sink hundreds of hours trying to build my own private military Dude Island in Zelda
i never thought that Survive would be any good but when initially announced, i thought, best case scenario, it could be like a VR Mission/level DLC kind of thing, but it’s not

There is a Silent Hill song just called Silent Hill?
This game was obtuse when i was playing it now I have no fucking clue about anything. Every explaination of mechanics is like it was machine translated. It would be impossible to find anything if I didnmt have sense memory.
Also no one is playing it lol.
I have always been curious about this game despite all warnings and it’s under $10 on Humble Bundle so I now own this thing. But I hear you don’t actually unlock multiplayer until you’re pretty far into the story! Maybe that’s for the best because I really sucked at it in the beta.

Don’t worry the online is empty as heck!
And you can do the online about2? 3? Hours in. Just you will be useless and expending resources you need to survive in the SP.
It is not a very good game.

this game is wild
it’s not very good but i’ll give it two things
- getting lost in the dust was so fucking stressful early in the game
- the first appearqnce and subsequent run ins with big daddy dust are actually terrifying and awe inducing all at once.

You’ve experienced the best part. We can get together and do the terrible multiplayer if you keep terrible hours in America on weekdays.
