I downloaded all these cars, now I want to take them on the road. (Handheld Consoles for Emulation)

Oh, I meant the Miyoo Flip V2, which definitely does not do that, ha.

Depending on how I like the Flip, I might! I will let you know once it gets here.

i want to know more about the shit fake vita

It was like 35 bucks in 2018. It ran Genesis games at half speed. The OS was unusable. It was the same mold as a Vita. The buttons and sticks felt horrible and wrong. Like I was prepared to tolerate it for a lark, but it was so miserable to use. Actively repulsive. A lot of posters that were at Bumpass can confirm because everyone used it for A Second then went “Oh No.”

My Miyoo Mini Plus arrived today, quite a bit sooner than expected.

Seems nice.

I played Metal Slug on it.

It seems reasonably small and reasonably comfortable to hold.

Now I’m letting it charge before playing more.

What’s like the standard level of capability on these things nowadays in terms of the most recent systems they can emulate successfully?

Feel like even the budget ones can run some PSP okay? Seem to falter at the GameCube/PS2 level though. Dreamcast is doable for most, though it might need frame skipping if it’s severely underpowered.

Basically all the 2d systems/arcade seem doable but 3d has a low ceiling. PS1 is covered though.

Retro game corps on youtube will easily give you the answer for any individual device but the standard for <100 is everything 1997 is golden and N64/Dreamcast/Saturn is if you don’t give a shit.

Once you hit 100 or so it is Gamecube/PS2 if you don’t give a shit. PSP pretty good.

Over 150 you can run anything but despite claims and pictures on a beach I haven’t heard “I just finished Nocturne/Mario Sunshine on my Chinese Handheld.” Because I don’t think it would be very comfortable!!

absolutely not lol

their recent DS thing is too underpowered to do DS well, let alone accurately

edit: hmm. more than none ?

since the trend kicked off they all do up-to-playstation, sans saturn. beyond budget models, the android-capable devices start there and go up to scraping against steam deck and high-end phone emulation (switch, some ps3, some pc games)

most go as far as being decent enough at dreamcast. the rgb30 i bought for £70 two and half years ago could manage that!

yea many midrange 2022-and-newer things do some DC, N64, Saturn in that order

You know I literally found this piece of shit again yesterday totally on accident. This thread summoned it back into being.

don’t forget it’s headphone jack output composite video signals!

trying to use winlator and gamehub is so intensely annoying that i’m declaring that playing pc games is not actually a feature this thing has after all

Keep thinking that an Ayn Thor will fix me, the end-all, be-all of these things, but I also know I hate setting up Android emulation with a passion.

So! Before I went and spent a stupid amount of money on something I can’t reasonably swing, I dug out my neglected Anbernic Cube I got a year ago and flashed Gamma OS to it.

It’s better than the stock Android/Anbernic software it came with…but it sucks! Hahaha. It sucks. I can’t stand Emulation Station or Daijisho or any of those things. Just needlessly complicated, hate navigating file folders, hate scrapers not grabbing art for stuff randomly, just don’t like it.

Until they put out a Linux handheld that can do all that stuff (they have, it’s the Steam Deck, a thing I have…), the CubeXX or 35XXSP are gonna continue be my go-tos. Those things “just work.” They also don’t cost half a grand.

Did some research into this and it looks like a lot of the higher end Android handhelds can boot into a Linux distro called Rocknix, but it’s entirely contained on the SD card and can’t be flashed to the system, so in order to boot into it you gotta boot into Android, then reset into safe mode and load it from the SD. Not ideal.

I dunno, I’ve accepted playing PSOne games on these things, but I still can’t really wrap my head around anything past that. Just seems wrong, to me, I guess. But that also conveniently means I’m good where I’m at.

Edit: Wait no maybe it does just automatically boot into it after that first setup.

Edit 2: Nope doesn’t look worth the hassle.
