Thank you

i still need to play MW4: Mercenaries, played the other two before, and never managed to make 3 works, and i still play for time to time MW: Living legends, going fast with a solitaire and just anyoning people, and then later a rifleman with all x-lasers.

heck, thank you! glad to have something like it, without need need of the mechwarrior clusterfuck of branding.

hi

so I’m playing this again

Games like this make me want a zactronics style game that’s all about waveform signal anyalsis so I can understand it better. That was one of those classes where I just showed up and just did enough to pass. I had no context for half of the things going on but I think the professor was just trying to get me out of the system.

Played 2 hours of Starcraft Remastered last night, just campaigning. The game looks exactly like I remember it looking - switching it back to the original graphics make me realize that my brain filled out soooo many details, and the fact that apparently all those details perfectly match the remastered version is kind of mind blowing.

I frickin love Starcraft, I’m so bad at it but I love it

Is this the only game where a character shopping for their own lingerie boosts relevant stats?

I can’t think of any developer with such an explosive combination of ostensible pedigree, blithe genre hopping, and utter failure as Double Fine.

I played the FF7 remake demo and… I don’t know. Everything is nice looking, its mostly very coherent but I kind of hate the battle system. So much running around slamming square, spells just not landing and not communicating why. I cast thunder 4 times before it landed. I GUESS ITS RANGED?! So much shit I cant see going everywhere. It just feels sloppy, I have no idea if I’m doing well or what doing well looks like.

I guess Im fighting an eyeball thing now. Is it a shira evil eyeball? It took a while to figure it out because its covered by pulsing reticles and lost in the background noise of pipes and colored lighting.

Double Fine is the craft beer of video games

lol yes these are the most infuriating parts of the battle system. Spells can be interrupted before you finish casting them so that’s likely what was happening to you.

But some spells can also miss if the target moves out of the way so that may have been what was going on as well.

Really they should have made the classic mode difficulty just a straight up turned based system exactly like the original. Instead it just auto-attacks for you while you select abilities/spells/items etc.

Shoot do tell I was thinking of playing the latter since it’s free on Game Pass

I can’t really pin down a specific thing for you. I also played MW5 on game pass and while I don’t regret it, the game just doesn’t “feel” like MechWarrior to me. I think they went too hard on the plodding robot angle, there’s no mobility or fuzzballing like in other MW games and the first few missions are tedious as fuck.

Also it’s like, astonishingly ugly, the lighting model makes every metal surface look like hammered shit.

i talked about my father yesterday about flight sims and mech stuff, and i talked how i feel clumsy having to use the left side of my keyboard for aceleration stuff if i want to use my keyboard for ship management (think like freespace 2.

So after so more talking, and then some trash wood we got by picking up from places, we did this:

i can slide that piece of wood in and out to put my flighstick and now i can actually use the acelerator below, and the buttons on the side and do keyboard for everthing else, i love this.

Mechwarrior 5 is a superficial recreation of MW4 Mercs made by people who don’t understand what makes those kind of Mechwarrior games appealing or good. Besides the actual combat which they’ve been iterating on for years in MWO everything else is just a shittier imitation of a feature from mw4. I was watching teg play mech merc company and unironically being a near 1:1 recreation of mw4 did it a lot more favors

heck yeah, my logitech works without even going to seetings on Merc Company, while MW5 i could not even make it work!
Edit: ok, my thortle doesn’t seem to work, but i am sure i can make it work in another way.

Yeah, I love action RPGs and fucking loathe how FFVII-R’s battle system feels/plays. I haven’t touched it in weeks, and I’m considering dropping it down to Easy or Classic, because my hands hurt too much these days to be dealing with spongy-as-fuck enemies in a goofy action battle system. Needing to have your ATB bar filled to use an item really pisses me off. Contact had a digestion system so you were limited in how many healing items you could use at a time, and it frustrated the hell out of me, and I feel exactly the same way in FFVII-R. :man_shrugging:

Also not being able to adjust where the two other party members are doing and taking it on faith that they’re not being dumb. As soon as you release control of melee-type characters they get in the bosses’ face. They mostly seem to neither take or deal much damage, probably as much because they are in some subtle cheat bubble as because of how their AI behaves.

But sometimes the boss does a mega-damage laser-bomb or something and they do seem to take full damage from that if they get hit. You have to trust them to dodge, which mostly they do but sometimes they don’t, especially when you yourself are dumbly in the path of the megalaser, which can result in an instant near-wipe. And after that happens, even though the entire party is at 10% health and you really need to sit back and heal and phoenix down, there is no way to tell them that and they just keep getting in the boss’s face. That was my first couple of attempts at Airbuster in a nutshell.

I didn’t have any trouble with airbuster but the combat is very determinedly neither good nor bad in that respect, a lot of it does feel like empty busywork but it achieves the same pleasant enough pacing as late-90s final fantasy

I’m going to tell myself I won’t get the next one unless they add AI scripting to it
