I had a melodramatic post written up that I think I lost, but the long and short is that I’ve worn size 11.5 4E (extra wide) shoes for like 15 years and I also need a straight last due to having a wide midfoot. So the only shoes I’ve worn have been the New Balance 990 and the Brooks Beast, and extra wide sizes only ever come in grey, black, and the occasional navy. But over the weekend I found out I can now fit into a standard width New Balance 990v4, 993, and 992 (albeit with slightly more snug a fit than I’ve grown accustomed to).
An entire world of shoes with color has opened up to me (note: the “entire world” is comprised of only the NB 990v4, 993, and 992).
Anyone here into shoes? New Balance’s site kind of sucks in that it only shows what it has in stock and not the totality of the colors that were released that could be found at third party retailers or might come back in after re-stocking. What’s the best way to browse what shoes colors are available for any particular shoe model, and what’s coming up for release, and where to buy them? It seems like lots of colors have to be bought from third-party fashion sites that a brand “collabs” with?
Someone tell me about shoes. I don’t know anything about shoes. But I want to wear a shoe that isn’t grey or black for once.
uhh so if you’re already aware of the models your best bet for a kind of ‘history’ of released colourways is actually somewhere like Goat or StockX, just pop the model number in their search bars. don’t necessarily buy from there since it’s all resale fuckery but it at least gives you some further search data you can chuck at google thereafter
for upcoming releases i used to keep an eye on sneaker bar detroit, just basic facts about the future
Thanks! At first I was thinking those were going to be very dangerous sites as I scrolled through the lists, but I actually have no idea how I’d wear a lot of those color combinations. They’re just not the kinds of colors I’m used to wearing and I have no idea if they’d even fit my clothes. I think I’m going to try and find something that’s a bit more general purposes casual rather than too flashy. These ones are real nice though- wish I experimented with sizes two years ago when these were available.
That said, I did order a couple of new colors that just released last week off New Balance’s store because I didn’t know if those kinds of things were limited or not (it appears actually not), and wearing the 990v4s for an extended time was causing some discomfort that didn’t happen when I was trying the size on at a store. I need to try going up in size and hope it works, otherwise one of these models is dead to me (and it’s the most common of the three I thought fit on me).
Unless these aren’t considered colorful shoes. When I was thinking about really loud shoes, I was seeing people post about shoes like these, which are outside of my comfort zone. But maybe I just need a more diverse wardrobe to make shoes like these work.
I made a mistake and ended up buying extremely deep red shoes because the hue looked rich and vibrant but didn’t think about how I don’t know how to make this color work with any clothes. It also comes with black, yellow, and white laces.
I ended up returning them and a few days later was wearing something where I realized they could have worked.
Shoe gang, I need advice. I’ve been looking at some other shoe colors on GOAT that could be interesting and I saw one that kind of caught my eye. It looks like a blue and white shoe with a computer screen nightlight filter turned on, so basically the white has this funky pinky-orange-creamy hue to it that might be carrying over into the blue too. It’s a weird color and I can get it cheaper than a retail price of a normal color.
My mom does not like it. My dad, who has a late-stage Alzheimer’s that specifically affects his ability to speak and understand speech, looked at a picture and was compelled to say “no, no”.
How do you all feel about the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 993 “Performance Art” in Arctic Blue:
