I Am So God Damned Excited About The Revenant

So Excited

Inarritu’s never made an actual good movie.

But he has made handsome movies.

What I’ve read makes it seems like he pared the book way down to simplify stuff for the screen but then bloated it back up to make it a little more hollywood standard/relatable but also maybe hammer the themes harder in his dumb Inarritu way?!

But the trailers are full of striking images and its perfect shrugbait idk maybe it will turn out good.

Watching it on The Big Screen instead of the leaked screener anyway because what’s the point of this movie w/out clarity of those images?

Time to blow up the moon.

I’ve been a bit scared off by the reviews, but I’ll probably still see this because, yeah, it looks super nice.

It hasn’t been getting good reviews? It’s like 80-something on rotten tomatoes last time I checked.

Based on the trailer alone I know that there will be enough visual spectacle in the movie to be worth the price of admission. Whether the rest of it is actually like, a good movie… to me is just icing on the cake I guess.

There need to be 100% more period pieces about being stranded in wilderness. If each and every movie that came out next year was about different person in old timey clothes getting attacked by animals and foraging for food I would be totally satisfied.

You say that now, but I would’ve said that about protagonists using bows in videogames too and look where that got us.

I sure did see this.

Initial thoughts:

-most tolerable of all Inarittu movies
-this is probably in large part because there’s not whole lot of dialog
-it really is gorgeous!
-always value another opportunity for an unintelligible Tom Hard Accent
-my familiarity with the book it’s loosely based on/the actual story the book was loosely based on makes me maybe a little too aware of the filmmakers’ additions to the story
-almost all of those additions are lame and stupid and also dumb
-there’s a very good movie in between sub-malick dream/vision sequences and Inarritu et al trying to make a Serious Commentary on Race/America’s Foundations
-inarritu would make a pretty strong genre filmmaker if he wasn’t a pretentious dunce who thinks he’s above genre
-if they’re going to end the movie like that, they should have Leo whisper ā€œOscarā€¦ā€ at the audience before it cuts to credits
-I need to to to sleep now OK

Woah

Yeah it’s an Actual Good Movie for almost one and a half of its 37 hours!

!

I loved all 37 hours except for Tom Hardy saying ā€œyou came all this way for revengeā€ etc

Like 1/3 of the ingredients of this movie are what you’d need to start making a Blood Meridian movie.

I was so god darned excited about The Revenant! I saw the trailer all year seeing other movies and the way it just looks is so great. Emmanuel Lubezki has created such an impressive resume as a cinematographer. Inarritu is a really great craftsman, which is why it’s interesting how he consistently fumbles with stories. I wonder if he’ll ever get better about that. That would be cool.

finally saw this and it was incredible

y’all picky

Oh no I thought it was absolutely fantastic. A liiiiiittle too much talking I think, but really, when weighed against the cinematographic intensity of, well, the whole thing, how it just burns with stress and gives you a heart attack the whole time, who cares about a bit of leaden dialogue.

you fucking monsters

ā€œHenceforth I shall love any movie that features the Traumatic Familydeath Flashback Tree from Vagrant Story.ā€ -Cuba ā€œ@Father.Torqueā€ Libre, 2003
