JSRF sampled the Black Panthers and idk WHAT to think anymore
That Malcolm X by way of PE sample in Sonic Rush is one of my all time favorite things.
I’m pretty Sonic-ignorant though so I had no idea it wasn’t an isolated incident.
This might kill the magic, but if I remember right: a while back, someone asked Naganuma on twitter why he sampled Malcom X among other famous clips. Instead of anything deep, he said his bosses/coworkers/whoever at Sega gave him a stack of cds with sample libraries they could use and those were the clips he grabbed without knowing any of the sources.
So those CDs were probably there since the Sonic CD era?
Yeah there’s a group of sample CDs, Zero-G Datafiles Vol 2, Skip to My Loops, Masterbit RAPsody, The X-Static Goldmine, etc which have been used at SEGA since the early 90s and still up to today it’s really neat
this is an interesting vid on jun senoue’s little trademark riff which i had noticed subconsciously but never so overtly
