hey everybody the phantom dust remaster is out

somehow beyond all odds, this little title that could has managed to actually come out and get released this year is the re-master of Phantom Dust and lets be honest I am really confused about how it even managed to be a thing.

it’s currently free on windows 10 and xbox one, i’m downloading a copy now.

It’s a cool game.

Can’t wait to never get to play it because W10 is too much of a liability for my backlog of obscurities. :frowning:

hey yeah I’d play this

I played maybe an hour or so and its kool! I like the jump and how you can shoot magic in the air and it lets you float while the windup animation plays. I like that in that time you can get hit by other magic and potentially fall down to a lower area or something. I like the ambient music in the shopping centre level (pause in that level and turn the volume to hear it better)

it sucks that i have been playing the xbox version on and off for the past six months or so and i’m totally burned out on the single player, which i’m guessing you need to play first to get cards without microtransactions?

The microtransactions aren’t the worst in the world. It’s $7 to get one copy of all 300 skills in the game, or $5 to get three copies of every skill within a specific school. So you could spend $25 to get three copies of every skill in the game and it’s kind of like paying the price of a game.

But, these are tied to the save file you buy them on so if you ever delete the save or lose it you have to pay for it all again.

I can’t help but love the way this game uses fragments of classical music. You spend most time listening to this rough industrial sound, and from time to time a part of a mangled piece you know so well (but always have trouble identifying instantly) appears out of nowhere, only to make way for aggressive noise or melancholy again. I’ve spent like 10 matches trying to remember where that small Shopping Mall/Palace sample is from, and just kept going there until it clicked (it’s Vivaldi). Then I thought it’s kinda fitting for a game where you keep coming back to these postapocalyptic battlegrounds to regain some pieces of your memory.

The atmosphere here is one of a kind.

Still wrapping my head around various skills and starting to dabble in deckbuilding.

Also, I appreciate how this video game warns me not to throw fireballs at my friends in real life.

This new version looks SO GOOD. Did they retouch the texture? Surely they weren’t that hi-res in the original game. It feels better too, but that may just be the xbone controller. I love the fast load times, but it also sucks that I never have time to read the load screen lore. I remember really enjoying the game’s world and characters in high school, so it’s disappointing that I can’t read the screen telling me what Chunky’s deal is, or whatever.

I appreciate that when I played this game in high school I didn’t recognize the sample of Polovtsian Dances, but now I do.

i started this earlier! i’m slowly making my way thru the campaign. i remember wanting to play this back in year 5 after seeing it in an xbox magazine so it’s cool that it’s here now… in hd… free to play…, though i wish i could have played this as a kid bc it’s definitely quiet and hangouty enough in all the ways that the screens/ trailer/ whatever i saw suggested

quick notes:
-some great dialogue (“THIS PLACE IS LIKE THE LOST AND FOUND COUNTER AT THE DISCOUNT CATASTROPHE STORE”; “FORGET ALL OF THIS, ENJOY YOUR LIFE DEEP WITHIN THE EARTH”)
-possibly the best match-end sound until ZiGGURAT
-the hub is this incredible proto-demons souls nexus, its got NPCs youre not sure if you can trust and questlines and everything
-fantastic transparent umbrella in the bar (although its a shame you cant sit and drink)
-baroness seems a surprisingly sympathetic queer character there’s a gay panic mission

if anyone’s still playing it or otherwise keen, maybe we could get some multiplayer games going? it has PC x Xbox crossplay right

this game is incredible

I dont have a modern windows else I would be all over this. I loved this philip k dick anime trading card game when I first played it on the original xbox. Part of the short list of games that make me feel great fondness for that system
