I want to say I have tried different cables, but I’ll give it a proper shot this weekend! I think I even have another gigabit switch with fewer ports lying around I can try in case the switch is the culprit.
Blokada is free for Android, and it’s been good to me so far.
Edit: Apparently for iOS too. And it’s open source.
I’m gonna try it out!
Also, sorry, I was skimming and somehow missed the YouTube spec, as opposed to generally blocking ads. Not sure it works on YouTube. Feeling dumb now! But hopefully blocking ads elsewhere is still a benefit to you.
It is. I was had to switch to firefox to use ublock origin, which I am not a fan of since I (unfortunately) am so plugged into the Google ecosystem. This may let me stick with chrome on my phone.
I did just find this though because I was curious myself. Gonna try it out, because the official Youtube app really do be sucking.
I wonder if someone will make an SFF version of the 16GB 4080 or the 4090 that’s like, a shrunken, 2-slot founders edition style design with a blower on it, but with a separate 140mm AIO loop that could be mounted in a Dan A4
so now that I have my big 4K 120hz TV, it turns out my GTX 1070 ti doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 out so I can’t use any of the fancy features of it from my PC. technically the displayport outs can do 4k at 120hz, but for whatever reason this TV really doesn’t want to recognize them. I have a displayport to hdmi cable that says it can do 8k at 60hz and 4k at 120hz but 90% of the time my TV says no signal when I have it plugged in. other people have had similar issues with this line (it’s an LG C2 OLED) but I can’t get any of their workarounds to work for me. it could be the cable is just bad, but even then it’s kind of moot bc this card can barely do 4k at 60hz for most games so I’m better off sticking to 1080p@120hz for now. the problem is for whatever reason this TV will only accept the displayport connection with it’s game mode turned off, which means no deep color or HDR – maybe those just don’t work over displayport at all? I can hook it up over hdmi with game mode on but then I lose 120hz and still don’t get any hdmi 2.1 features.
now, I’ll gladly take framerate over resolution any day, but I’m wondering what videocard would be a reasonable upgrade to maybe actually hit 4k@120hz down the road. does such a thing even exist yet that’s like, less than $500? should I wait until this year’s generation drops to see if prices go down? I’m still so confused by the nomenclature and numbering system of the card models and prices seem to be all over the place.
No.
nice guess I’ll just wait then
Coming into the thread, hat in hand, looking to see how I can squeeze a little more juice out of my PC.
Admittedly, I built it super cheap, and it mostly works OK, but trying to play the ol’ Fortnite and it chugs. It seems like it renders the world just fine if I crank the settings, it just intermittently drops like a rock.
I’m pretty sure (like 99.9% sure) my CPU is the bottleneck on my PC, but of course the AMD software and one of those benchmark sites are telling me my GPU is a piece of shit, etc etc.
Anyway, off the top of my head, here’s what I’ve got.
Gigabyte AM4 mobo
Ryzen 2400g
XFX RX 570 8 GB VRAM
16 GB RAM
I’m not trying to run stuff at 4K or whatever. 1080p is fine! Just trying to get an idea of “will my stuff run better if I get off this wimpy APU.” That’s…probably an obvious answer, just wonderin’!
Edit: looking into it, the handful of CPUs still compatible with my motherboard would only offer a modest performance bump over what I’ve got. Ah well!
yeah from what I understand (which could be wrong bc I know very little) meaningful cpu upgrades usually require a prior motherboard upgrade… which can also mean new RAM.
M2 Pro looking kind of nothing at this point, I think I’ll probably wait for the M3 Pro to finally upgrade my 2018 MBP
original M1 still the hands down star of this lineup I think, still the biggest differentiator by far
yeah, the chassis/keyboard/screen (120hz HDR)/ports are what make the M1 MBP. the processing power isn’t much different outside of a/v work but it is fun to just never have my DAW stop to render
thinking more on this, I wonder if it’d be worth swapping it for something like an RTX 3060 or 3060 ti, which would offer a marginal performance improvement but at least give me hdmi 2.1 and the ability to use HDR and the other fancy gamer features on my TV, though I know VRR won’t work. they seem to be cheapish enough to where I could sell my 1070 ti (which still seems to fetch a decent price on ebay) and come out relatively cheaply. is that a dumb idea?
should I be relatively concerned with manufacturer with this kind of thing?
you might be able to flash the bios of the board to accept newer am4 cpus. you probably can
thinking about the time a pal’s mail.app hit some bug where all his outgoing email was sent with the name “Holidays in the United Kingdom”
Holidays in the UK
It’s coming some time and maybe
Oh nice, I haven’t looked into flashing my BIOS in a while, and it looks like my motherboard should be able to handle more recent Ryzen processors without much issue.
