Hardcore Will Never Die But Hardware Will

if gaming is the goal, just build an AM4/X3D system and let the tradeoff for being on a dead platform be competitive gaming perf

if you want a future computer, just bite the bullet and go AM5 now (Zen 5 is on the same socket, so RIP prices magically going lower) but futureproof everything but the CPU (7600s are relatively cheap now)

or, you know. come one over to the dark side and buy into a new Intel platform. it’s nice over here, sometimes games don’t know what cores to go on.

sometimes I wonder how much of my not trusting windows on arm or windows on asymmetrical cores is just paranoia since I both like windows and trust those things on other platforms, I’m just very skeptical about complicating baseline windows functionality

luckily a 7700x is right there and very good

v skeptical as well given my old surface book’s dual gpu jank

I put in the 7700k and overclocked it to 4.9ghz and that made a big difference so we’re good for another generation

I want a platform refresh because I’m hoping it will address the ddr5 memory training thing

yeah when I read some article that said something about maybe new motherboards for am5 I was seriously considering the idea of taking apart this whole thing to replace the motherboard if it actually did that. also if I could get 2 more sata ports lol.

Hey that’s what I’m rocking. YouTube clips look like a different game.

You got a free pci-e 1x slot? Sata cards are like, <$15

I feel like I’m about to be blamed for this

Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised with a 25% clock speed boost and 33% more cache (now a whopping 8MB) but wow this computer is noticeably faster and I feel dumb I didn’t do this sooner

I was originally more worried about the mini-ITX form factor part of your scheme but that part was totally fine

I do want to say again that I have 0 problems from DDR memory training after the initial configuration process and uefi updates, it is possible, not that I support the it-works-on-my-machine-ification of all consumer hardware, but it does

last fall the return bin at microcenter was full of the gskill kits they bundle with the 7700x because people were getting them exchanged to run expo profiles better. i believe you, but it might be a bit luck of the draw

well yeah that’s what the return policy is for

do people not love arguing their way into return policies like I do

ram is like the one component that’s still trivial to test and swap no matter what your build is

2 minute start up time last time I reset my computer

well, you won’t run into training startup time if you never shut-off or restart

seems like an easy fix to me

I haven’t voluntarily turned off or restarted my main PC in like 6 years.

gotta try UEFI update then!

otoh, moi restarts the Computer every time after using it (firm believer in

unplug ze Computer

tbh, because a device which is not connected to mains is in a safe state, i.e. not going to do anything if i don’t want it to)
and i can confirm that training is taking its time every restart.

i wish you’d seen me at best buy trying to return that open box switch mario party game that miffy made me buy (they never took it)

is there a small HDMI monitor I can get that I can place on my work desk and use for Slack/Web/Reference, since Unreal takes up 2 windows and switching between them is a hassle. everything on amazon looks like suspect industrial sludge.
