Grotesque videogames

Considering how harrowing and oneiric the Ecstatica games were, it’s a shame we never got the modern day spinoff.

I don’t know about anyone else, but obviously repeating textures are absolutely my aesthetic.

i love to look out over an ocean of the same looping wave animation, repeated as far as the eye can see

Mohawk and Headphone Jack, wants to one-up Sonic on the SNES but is some kind of homepathically-concentrated nausea inducer. and they didn’t even have VR back then

Nothing is more beautiful than seeing a piece of software find its technological soulmate.

this is the true final realization of the “extreme 90’s gaming” aesthetic

as much as I adore mdk, and o, how I adore it, I believe it belongs here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LWrjeOHgjY

it’s worth noting there was a second preview version of urban decay with polygonal characters.

Holy shit.

Um. Genpei Toma Den, imo.

oh man yeah! Genpei Touma Den’s boss segments are good examples of a game that like just strides the line between grotesque and orthodox. it’s really interesting to look at. Samurai Ghost, the sequel, is entirely centered around those segments.

?

Mdk is a beautiful game. That vid doesnt even show the bizarre mirror stage area where every surface reflects the sky box

Edit: this level

MDK is probably my favourite 32-bit straight action game. The sequel is good too but lost it’s focus
