Due to this concern when it was aimed at them a while back, GMG started listing where they get their keys sourced from in the game information section. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them say something other than the game’s publisher but I don’t really buy that much from them.
I mean legit or not it’s still a reseller so it does annoy devs for all the stated reasons, it’s just not uniquely bad
Also that’s only like $4 less than GOG.
Is Destiny 2 legit? It seems to have picked up some momentum/enthusiasm in the same way FFXIV did, makes me curious.
read the thread and prepare to be put off in a way you’ve never been put off anything before
it’s an intensely choreographed MMO with all the trappings thereof (writing that goes nowhere forever, coordinated team strategies that are fundamentally rote and yet incredibly convoluted, lots and lots and lots of numbers) that has objectively good gamefeel and visual design and so on
if you want to play One Game it has a better claim to that than most but if your relationship to it or your expectations aren’t basically in line with MMORPGs, it’s probably not for you
it has the best movement and ~ gun feel ~ in a post-quake fps (not a massive achievement but still) and some shit hot art direction, the raids and a since purged comp pvp mode are some of the most fun i’ve had in a vidcon ever!!!
however it has been plagued by Lifestyle Game Problems - all of the negatives of an mmo without the fuckin’ overwhelming deluge of content something like ff14 can put out with that sub & that modern ‘stamp out any fun goofy overpowered thing, make everything boring!!!’ approach to balance i can’t fuckin’ stand
i think ultimately ‘do not play anything with an Addiction Consultant in the credits’ is a good personal rule
Nobody gets to do what Destiny does aesthetically at the scale Bungie can - they cashed all of their checks to make a weird prog rock world that lampshades your impotent omnipotence with clever writing.
It has been my One Game and maybe the only game where I’m proud of my growth as a player.
IIRC you don’t have a regular coop partner or group, which is basically essential for having a good time. Hit me up if you want to try it out.
Honestly feel that anyone who for whatever godforsaken reason wants to play a Massively Multiplayer Online Game should just submit to the game that hates them, WoW Classic, and play one of the dozens of fantastic singleplayer FPSes if they want to play an FPS
Destiny is, for me, a classier Borderlands.
Think Diablo, not WoW.
yeah that’s exactly how i feel when i play destiny, and i play it like borderlands as well: hop in for an hour, shoot some stuff, leave.
WoW is Diablo is WoW
This is the secret
yeah it is sort of like borderlands if literally every element of borderlands was better (and in better taste)
i guess that sells it short too
idk i love it and kind of think it’s the best game ever on some axes, despite being very low on others
i went from destiny to ff14 because it doesnt have the same “this is the only game you should be playing” qualities as destiny and isnt packed with fomo bullshit (at least in my experience.) i quit destiny 2 around warmind when they announced they were bringing back random perk rolls because its just a bunch of grindy bullshit, came back at the end of forsaken and surprise surprise they added a bunch of stupidly grindy shit into the game that i guess they’ve sort of walked back now. i get this is how MMOs are cuz ive played a million of them but destiny feels like it has 0 respect for my life at all. the raids are cool but the time investment sucks as an adult. the community is immensely toxic. it wants you to grind as much as other mmos while occupying this weird space where it doesn’t quite have the content to justify it. the shooting sure is good but I can just go back and play fucking Halo and feel better about myself if that’s all I care about
Also I should say the art in Destiny does nothing for me and I don’t know why. I never liked the way Halo looked either. Too slick, or something. Hard to describe. If I want to play a scifi shootygame with a unique aesthetic with my sisbros and want to do grindy checklist shit without going into full MMO territory why wouldn’t I play Warframe?
it’s a pity because besides all the Lifestyle Gaming nonsense it’s fuckin’ excellent
i could never figure out what the fucking hell to do in warframe and i have a ‘saga evangelist’ title
my roommate talks about how he had to “give up” and become apathetic about all the grinding lifestyle game shit in destiny to keep enjoying it and I guess I just can’t recommend a game that makes people talk about it like they’re in an abusive relationship with Bungie to other people in good conscience
cf. League of Legends and Dota
I don’t think FF14 would work for me because it’s not an action game. Even Diablo/Torchlight feel too disengaging moment-to-moment.
If Titanfall hadn’t been turned into a BR with neither fluid movement nor mechs I would be playing that.
i mainlined it for a few weeks and yeah the frictionless mmo combat killed it for me in the end
