yeah it’s definitely fussier than a consumer-facing application should be.
Once over beers a Microsoft engineer told me that being forced to build their app using Windows system shit instead of just using off-the-shelf software like any normal non-Microsoft-employee would was the bane of their existence. Among other things that would lead to this sort of extreme sensitivity to update version skew
and much like the package manager problem this is a classic microsoft fallacy – their SDKs are always restricted and overdesigned and most of the good software on their platform just ignores them
90’s VB was arguably the exception to this (it was also restricted and overdesigned but it had no competition)
Jake thought he was safe after his main hunter quit, but little did he know…
There’s no way I’m playing through that turd alone
Copy Kitty is great, very Marinacore game
also required by law to inform people whenever this goes on sale:
Which historically isn’t often!
The Shadowrun Trilogy is free on gog right now, get it for Dragonfall alone which is fantastic.
because i saw the GOG sale is ending soon i bought entirely too many random janky late 90’s/early 00’s adventure games that were on sale for like 1 dollar. not sure why. hopefully this will be a journey i will undertake at some point in the near future.
also maybe i’m the only person who cares about this, but the full versions of two of the best shareware DOS 2d platformers i used to play a lot as a kid are free on GOG: Jill of the Jungle and Bio Menace
Bio Menace might be the best of the (non- id software) 2d Apogee games and Jill is weird and unique in a way i still like a lot. other than the Commander Keen games and Duke Nukem 1 (DN2 is bad sry) those two are the best of the DOS platformers for me.
Jill of the Jungle is the game I was playing on that summer vacation day when my dad came home and asked me to stop playing and come talk to him so he could tell me he was leaving before he told my mom. So, lots of awkward memories there. Haven’t played it since, ha.
lmao. i hear you. i have a lot of intense childhood memories attached to a lot of old DOS games in particular, i think because those games are not things that tend to be talked about or come up much since then (unlike console games)… so they feel more preserved in amber. i think my unhealthy obsession with Wolf 3D and Doom have a lot to do with traumatic childhood stuff that was happening around the time i was introduced to those games.
also uhh to turn this back to the topic: this game is on sale. i feel like a lot of people haven’t heard of it - but they should!
Today I breathe a small sigh of relief, PS+ won’t be adding more games to my backlog in July.
more time for you to practice VF5
Have I ever mentioned that I’ve only played like, 270 seconds of Virtua Fighter in my entire life? Haven’t played much more Tekken either. Somehow I wound up being a Soul Calibur guy.
there’s no better time to start being a Virtua Fighter player
Never been a better time.
Original ARMA is free until July 3rd at 1pm EST
