In February 1941, as the East African Campaign started to go badly for the Italians, Massawa, the home port for Eritrea became more endangered. Along with Ramb I and Ramb II, Eritrea slipped through a British blockade off Perim and sailed into the Indian Ocean on 20 February 1941.[5]

She sailed across the Indian Ocean and ultimately reached Kobe

As soon as the Reuters message about the surrender of Italy was picked up by the crew of Eritrea, the vessel changed course at once and headed at full speed to Colombo in Ceylon to surrender. Eritrea passed by Sumatra and escaped despite the presence of the Japanese aerial and naval units.

Decca’s “Sepia Series” was launched in October 1940 with cat. nr. 8500 to feature what was then called “race music,” that is, black artistry, musicians and performers. The Sepia name was dropped at the end of 1942 (around cat. nr. 8644), and the series was phased out in 1945 with cat. nr. 8673.

In June 1949, at the suggestion of Billboard journalist Jerry Wexler, the magazine changed the name of the chart to Rhythm & Blues Records. Wexler wrote, “‘Race’ was a common term then, a self-referral used by blacks…On the other hand, ‘Race Records’ didn’t sit well…I came up with a handle I thought suited the music well – ‘rhythm and blues.’… [It was] a label more appropriate to more enlightened times.”[21] The chart has since undergone further name changes, becoming the Soul chart in August 1969, and the Black chart in June 1982.[22]

Huge well-researched page that not only lists works but summarizes how their predictions matched or differed from reality.
