Games come in two flavors:

This is a game about a buzzy fly shitting on things. It is about the meaning of life.
This is a game about the United States armed forced invading Iran and killing their heads of state. It’s not about anything.

you are not alone in feeling this way! lmao.

i do think there is interesting stuff happening in the space as always, but esp with the indie space it’s just on the fringes and not really represented by these conferences. and the presentation of a lot of indie stuff has become hyper twee in general.

also the Wholesome Direct is generally more diverse though i’m not sure the diversity all being filtered down into making one kind of game/experience in general (i.e. cutesy nonviolent games) is a great thing at alll…

somehow “it’s like hogwarts for escape rooms” is the worst elevator pitch I’ve heard so far today

The UI in Escape Academy looks like Scene-It! for the Xbox 360

“a cozy puzzle game”…

wow this really seems like Unpacking/Vignettes volume 2. i’m so glad the indie space is this bastion of originality and not just heavily borrowing from other games in the space or anything.

Oh I played on of this devs games recently. Seemed like a portfolio piece but was kinda neat. Cloud Climber by Two Star Games

“from developer GummyCat, and it’s called Bear and Breakfast. and the title says it all! you’re a bear, your run a bed and breakfast in the woods… and it’s really friggin fun!”

wow okay i find this all more unbearable than watching Keighley at this point i have to say

Is the twist of that game that it never ends and you’re expected to do these tasks ad infinitum before your mortal battery life runs out?

Nervously denying that my game might have something unsettling to anyone in any way before being pilloried by teenagers who think bear is a slur
