Geoffrey Keighley (1979) presents The Game Annouments (2022), and other Expositions of Electronic Entertainment

animal well looks cool but also like a prototype for rain world… it’s cool to see something that is directly working in that space, but it just looks worse from every angle. still a highlight!

honestly, the thing im maybe most looking forward to is the three kingdoms nioh thing from team ninja lol

Haven’t seen one thing from this, no idea what’s up, but liking exoprimal, thanks for pointing that out… also immediately thought of EDF5, only fear is that this trailer talks tooo muuuuch

Yeah i also noticed harvestella. It seems like it has a kinda good snes rpg hook but the low-mid tier squeenix graphical presentation doesnt inspire my trust. Are any of these contemporary cheap jrpgs any good, like oninaki etc

Funny you bring up Oninaki because that Harvestella trailer did give me Tokyo RPG Factory vibes, except Harvestella maybe looks more fleshed out and polished than their games?

I liked the relentless snow and Charlie Brown piano music in I am Setsuna but not much else. Haven’t tried Lost Sphear nor Oninaki.

I didn’t realize it was coming so soon in the first place. I really know nothing about this game beyond those early cryptic images.

I did just learn this, though.

They had a big showcase recently where they showed off ‘match edit’ mechanically you move between the films based on formal edits you find within the footage. Looks pretty neat.

i only played her story, was the other one any good

it was kind of tawdry, wasn’t as successful as her story by a fair distance, but not awful

I haven’t gotten to it but it (Telling Lies) is on Game Pass so I ought to.

Immortality’s match cut mechanic is perfect for the hypertext corkboarding association narrative. If it is actually procedural and not very elaborate sleight of hand I want a GDC talk about it yesterday.

telling lies seemed to get a pretty lukewarm reception, but since then i’ve heard a few people talk about how it’s narrative actually goes interesting places with some pretty good writing.

hopefully those screenwriters will keep the designer from directly addressing you about how you feel at the end of the game. I’m still angry at her story

Telling Lies is very close to Her Story, to a fault (I’m less inclined to forgive the very contrived setup the second time), and its only innovation completely ruins the game

I still don’t understand how people dealt with the ~half of the game when an offscreen character you can’t hear is speaking. Do you fast forward or just watch in silence? Both options blow
