it actually bothers me a lot that sherlock and watson no longer come across as middle-aged men in devil’s daughter. i’m probably gonna get used to it but this is an entirely different pair of characters and its throwing me off. at least on a steam deck, the game both looks and runs worse than its predecessor. the new lighting makes things very difficult to parse, common problem of fancy-ass lighting systems from when it was released. i suppose every developer just assumed everything would be running in hdr or something. other than that this is certainly more full of action. more stressful. MORE to DO. at least right now. i am not entirely sure i’m up for that, i actually quite like being able to go at my own pace and not have to worry about making quick decisions while trailing some guy. i tried the higher difficulty first and turned it down when i realized it put a time limit on staring at people.

Devil’s daughter is as bad as the Sherlock games get imho. Which is like pretty good for a long running game series actually

it was my birthday a couple days ago, and what better way for a weirdly buxom pinched waist gamer geek nerd girl like myself to celebrate than PLAY A BUNCH OF CHEAP TICKET GAMES!! So i threw on my booty shorts that say COIN on the ass and breasted boobily on down to the arcade

this is a really neat little game, janky and full of heart. on Birthday Mode you have free reign to play around on the many uniquely modeled and fairly authentic feeling games. not just at one arcade either, there’s a whole bunch of them with different themes, machines, and prizes. (your starting one is obviously Showbiz Pizza inspired as you can see by the knockoff Rock-afire Explosion there.)

all of these are set in a fully modeled little rural island town populated by you and a bunch of clown bopper-like robots and (during Birthday Mode at least) stuck in perpetual nightfall. actually kinda spooky!! you can zip around in a golf cart or on a (again janky but) surprisingly fun and satisfying bike, and it has a similar appeal to exploring empty VR Chat worlds – seeing all these virtually modelled liminal spaces and experiencing someone’s personal nostalgia (which i definitely do share to some degree).

there is a Survival Mode that lends “use” to some of these spaces, where you turn your prize winnings into money so you can live off cheez puffs and gas station sandwiches. sounds cute i havent messed with it yet. but there’s already something really fun about a gameworld that lets you play carnival games (complete with carnie banter), ride the ferris wheel, bike to the nearby waterpark, and go for a float down the lazy river holding the big silly inflatable snake you won from the shooting gallery. if only i had some real fried dough to go with it

i forgot to cap it (and this post is imageful enough anyway) but this pirate-themed fun center contains a whole putt-putt course, cuz why the hell not. Fuck i wish this was a VR Chat world/a multiplayer game

Oh yeah and instead of just an invisible wall there’s a crashed oil tanker with a military blockade. at both edges of the map. This game is really cute you guys

so far the 007 game is like ringo ishikawa to me in that it’s annoyingly good in a why hasn’t anyone else attempted anything like this, wish I made something like this, etc way. mainly cause the story is paced and plays out like a normal ass movie or show in a way anyone playing incoherent ps2 or 3 era games back when wondered why they don’t just make things like this instead. this is exactly the story telling in a game competence I was starved for back then, free from videogame insanities we just inure ourselves to over time playing them. also as a fan of the under appreciated hitman absolution it’s nice to see them attempt a more narrative thing without getting yelled at cause it has the bald barcode guy which means the levels have to all be big sandboxes because that’s the rules. maybe it takes amazon mgm money to make what should of been all this time a normal default videogame type, maybe I wrongly assume that at a certain point more money and people on a videogame is only going to help with making photo real art actually look good stitched together. io and remedy are about the only ones left out here at this level and io might be even more unappreciated for it.

i started enshrouded so i can have a game where i run around like a goblin and set up a base? i think you do that in the game. i dunno why but something about the movement and the environment clicked in my head and i don’t actually care what you have to do. a swarm of bees or something killed me immediately that’s pretty cool

when you jump ur character is just like

it’s still early access i hope they don’t fix it

I thought Havana was hard, now Kane and Lynch are in the jungle. I do like how they have to have Carlos join the team but because NPC squads are capped at 5 one of them is just randomly “I’m out!” and all that Kane can promise the remaining goons is a bunch of drugs that might be in this jungle fortress. I switched from controller to mouse+keyboard. A lot of the firefights are just kind of stupid right now. Not sure how the game escalates from here.

i played a little ea fc 26, boy that game is optimized like dogshit. how did you make an ea sports game where my cpu is at 100%

Finished Kane And Lynch but chose the bad end, i should go back and do the good end, but the levels have been so frustrating that I need to take a break. There was one time I cleared an area out and one of the squad mates got downed while hovering 20 feet in the air and i couldn’t reach them.

devil’s daughter - sherlock and watson are completely different, and whitechapel and baker street are redesigned, but somehow the police station and its inhabitants have resisted the reality shift because its the exact same space with the same npcs in the same gestures, with the exact same lestrade model that they used in the previous game. its uncanny

edit: lestrade is also much more hostile this game than the previous one, i have to believe he recognizes this sherlock as an impostor

Did you read the player’s guide that came with the translation, or did you just go in blindly?

i have been playing some Star Fox stuff, i did 1, 2 and 64 a bunch of times because they are still good. tried to play Star Fox Adventures again just for fun and…i’m going to say that the “peak of Rare 3D platformers” should probably just remain in the past. Just an era of videogames that I sunk a lot of time in as a non-job having child that feels just really crummy to slog through IMO. it’s so very clear that they shoved all the Starfox shit into this Dinosaur Planet Gamecube Game in the clunkiest weirdest way that it makes me kind of want to continue but also just delete the game

on the flip side, i played EX Zodiac, the Not-Star Fox game that’s just Star Fox (and sometimes Space Harrier) and it basically does what it says on the can. it reminds me of something like Blazing Chrome, which is just Not-Contra Hard Corps and honestly I love Contra Hard Corps, just like I love OG Star Fox games so this was like Potato Chip flavored Potato Chips for me

also checked out the Starfox Switch 2 demo and it’s also Just Starfox 64 but wrapped in like a Prestige Disney/Pixar-mini series level wrapper that’s just novel enough to feel cool but familiar enough to make me consider not spending Fifty 2026 Inflation-level Dollars (American) on it. also I read someone on this site say Peppy’s new voice sounded like Travis Mcelroy doing a TAZ character voice and I can’t unhear it no matter how much I try

next on the list is finding a cheap copy of Star Fox Command for the DS and then booting up Assault for the first time while I contemplate playing 20 minutes of Ace Combat Zero to see how it feels

I think you mean Ex Zodiac

i have been slowly making my way through Star Fox Adventures and it’s remarkable at how much of a slog the entire game is and how it’s design is super crummy and tedious. I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it because of how samey it is. It’s amusing and corny enough to keep going through but, god

I’m not saying you should go to a Japanese package forwarding service and create an account and get a “physical” Japanese address and then go to Amazon.co.jp and buy an eshop code for StarFox for 31 American United States of Hell Pretrodollars and make a Japanese NNID and redeem that code in the eshop

but

i have also completed star fox adventures back in 2002 and now i am almost 40 years old, armed with the knowledge of the benefits of second control stick for a camera and the cursed realization for how furry horny this whole thing was from the jump
