I like Grasshopper games! Suda is a real hit or miss. Need to do a proper Romeopost soon

About half his games are bad I think is fair to say but when they’re good they’re real good

It’s also debatable how much input he really has in a given game or whether he’s a figurehead.

Romeo is directed by Ren Yamazaki who directed NMH3 and Black Knight Sword which were both on the better end of Grasshopper’s output imo

THREEFOLD RECITAL

What? Tigress is playing a furry VN again? NO WAY.

Except this a Chinese furry VN has been described as Ace Attorney with platforming. So far, it is not Ace Attorney with platforming. It’s a more general mystery VN but there’s platforming and extremely light puzzles. Oh!

It has the delightful premise that Beastfolk originated from three animals in the distant past that listened to so much philosophy they actually gained sentience and then spread this to other animals through discussion of the cosmic principles of the universe.

We love furry Cultivation here, don’t we folks?

This sets up a big fantastical technomagical city with three furry weirdos, a wolf guy, a fox guy, and a snake lady. Each of them theoretically has special talents, and they use them in the intro. I’ve played through that and the first real chapter, which mostly focuses on the wolf guy.

Wolf guy is a monk, and this means he’s physically fit (he can break the shit out of stuff sometimes), and he’s capable of seeing lines of Karma (which so far have been used in everything from puzzle solutions and hints, a mini-game, and a clue to one of the mysteries).

So far the puzzles…kind of aren’t puzzles with the exception of the little deduction quizzes that pop up in the chapter. They basically expect you to pay attention to the evidence and be able to choose from a series of dialogue options asserting a fact that you figured out through observation.

One interesting twist this game has is that at the end of every chapter, it grades you on stuff like…side objectives, finding little doodads, etc. But one is roleplaying, where it judges how many of your dialogue choices and possibly actions were accurate to the particular character’s personality. I have no idea how to tell which are right or wrong, but it’s such a cute detail.

None of this has been even remotely taxing, but it’s been fun, there’s a hunky wolf guy, and the world-building is really really really interesting.

The whole thing feels like a passion project in the best way…though I do hope the puzzles become a little less handholdy as it goes. But…well…I can handle handholdy if that means I can imagine a big wolf guy…holding…my…hand.

Sure. Lets go with that.

I would agree, but conventionally speaking the vast majority of people are/would be completely polarized by it since it isn’t like “fun” in a typical sense

those people don’t know what fun is

For me though my favorite is extremely basic common denominator opinion, that being No More Heroes. It’s one of maybe like 4 games I’ve played more than once which says a lot and as a result is one of few games I have a pretty consistent place for on my top favorite games list

One day I shall break the forbidden seal and rank the Grasshopper games. Objectively of course!

most suda fans don’t even finish his games. The big fan discord that sucks him off is full of people who talk about how 25th Ward is genius but only played an hour of it because they got pissed off at one of the puzzles

danganronpa 2 is a flower sun and rain fangame, fsr is far more beloved than you think

Still amazed Flower Sun Rain has a doctorate level math question in it.

Like I had the question and solution and couldn’t figured it out and asked friends trying to become physicists and they couldn’t and asked their teachers. Two days later the teacher came back with “Okay I found the obscure formula this used.”

I have no idea how you found the normal solution. Was there a cheat system for the puzzles?

I am rancid at math and had to look up the majority of answers in FSR. I gave them all a good try though

I think you posted about this before and I’m almost certain this is one of the weird bonus puzzles added to the DS port that isn’t required to progress through the story.

The only required maths stuff is at the end of the game and, while tedious, it’s all fairly basic equations (the game even jokes about digging your calculator out just to get through it).
