what game is this? also i should stipulate that in my dream ninja game, itā€™s not open world, it has a series of open but self-contained levels. ninjas donā€™t use checklists!!

What makes Ghost in the Shell so dope? Can you elaborate?

well I like the movies and show for one thing so that helps, but the game itself is just a great 32-bit era action game, just sliding around up and down walls and leaping all over the place as you blow everyone up, it feels great and satisfying. a boss battle happens on the side of a sky scraper! thereā€™s lots of variety in the missions, some feeling more like an arcade game from the era. just a really solid action game that I love playing. dope techno soundtrack, too.

the guitar hero and rock band games unleashed stems for decades and decades of pop music if we didnt live in a corrupt world where laws restrict creativity people would be making music like youd never heard rn

i bought No More Heroes 3: Day 1 Edition for PS5 the other day because it was on sale for $19.99 and iā€™d heard vaguely positive things about it from folks.

itā€™s pretty good! iā€™m wondering if there are any actual levels, though? thereā€™s something about the pacing of NMH1 (and 2 i guess) that i enjoy in terms of Travis entering levels, going through rooms, hunting down the boss. having everything just be these little sidequests feels like itā€™s going to wear thin pretty quickly, but the game is full of surprises, so maybe thereā€™s more in store for me.

i almost donā€™t want to say too much because a lot of what makes it fun is the novelty of its style and presentation. also still kind of feels like a Wii/PS2-ass game!

I am still into Aria and punching things a lot. Punching skeletons. Punching walls. Punching demons. Punch punch punch!

Make the next 3D Castlevania God Hand 2 (ā€œGOD HANDSā€) punching all the denizens of Hell (like we did in, well, God Hand).

Wait is God Hand the best 3D Castlevania?

  • I had to edit this post because I originally wrote ā€œGod Handsā€ instead of ā€œGOD HANDS.ā€ How could I have?! -

i have some more good things to say about bloodborne but at the moment all i can say is that the chalice dungeon version of the rom boss fight has me the most annoyed iā€™ve been at a videogame in recent memory. tediously picking off a dozen baby spiders while hiding behind columns, then hitting the boss 2 or 3 times before it teleports away and summons another dozen baby spiders, and if you make a single mistake at any point in the process youā€™re probably going to have to start over. i guess i should come back in like 20 levels, when the attacks would be less likely to kill me from full health? the solution to the watchdog boss i was frustrated with before was to hover about 15 feet in front of its face to bait out its worst attacks, with this one it seems to be having the patience to perfectly execute a very simple plan over the course of about 15-20 minutes

I was very resistant to the idea of enjoying Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but even though I am terrible at these games and have no rhythm, it was a lot of fun playing Rock Band with my friends once I started. We shot a movie one summer and a lot of days after wrapping weā€™d go back a friendā€™s house and play for a few hours. It was great.

i read hopeless junction and it was so good

there are girls and itā€™s gay and VERY HORNY and some absolutely wretched shit happens

i think these are good things for a visual novel

actually i think referring to all that as ā€œabsolutely wretched shitā€ is kinda bad on my part

thereā€™s a cw list on the games page and itā€™s probably good to have a look at it if there are things you absolutely donā€™t want to see or read or if you are stupid like me and read something like that as a feature list. itā€™s dark and thereā€™s some awful abuse and violence in there as well as moments of tenderness and joy that sometimes feel like they are there to hurt you more later and other times maybe not i dunno what iā€™m trying to say i think people whoā€™ve told me i have media literacy vastly overestimated me iā€™m just really desperate to feel a lot of things

i really am having a hard time getting into bloodborne. iā€™ve loved all the other souls games, as well as elden ring (and sekiro, which is somewhat different), but this one hasnā€™t hooked me at all. i still have a lot of proximal enthusiasm, second-hand optimism about how much iā€™ll like it based on how much everyone else likes it, and it does have all the things i like in these games. it seems way hard, though, like i canā€™t figure out what the game wants me to do.

i like the environments and the voice acting is fab, but the game really does run quite poorly at all times (feels ā€œjitteryā€), in a way that is often distracting. that, coupled with how much the game seems to ask of you, has been a recipe for me to repeatedly be disoriented, confused, and swarmed. i suspect thereā€™s a sort of initial hump that needs to get crossed before the game fully opens up. but maybe this one just isnā€™t my cup of tea!

for context iā€™m still roaming the first or second area of the game, and i encountered the cleric beast (and was destroyed by 'em) a few times

I couldnā€™t get into any Guitar Hero-likes because the sound of plastic clacking drowned out any enjoyment of music. Also I have very little knowledge of popular rock. Also the games arenā€™t really about understanding rhythm in my mind, just an arbitrary string of inputs. Also Iā€™m wrong and the millions who enjoyed it had a good time.

Iā€™d give DJ Hero a try but thatā€™s a hard one to get a hold of.

itā€™s way more offensive than Souls, almost halfway to Sekiro. learn to use the blunderbuss to ā€˜parryā€™ a lot, something I never did in DS. I never got beyond that boss that shoots lightning at you unfortunately.

Beat Armored Core 6 and got all parts unlocked again the other day. Also went ahead and removed all the tuning upgrades except for the tech options (Quick Turn, weapon purge, etc.) and the hack speed improvement. Back to fiddling around in the garage. Most recent iteration of Polaris is kinda neat, more missile heavy than previous ones.
