i always marry bianca shes the only choice that feels right. The game successfully makes me attached to your childhood adventure friend. And with all the bullshit the hero goes through, it makes sense he would get together with a supportive person who reminded him of happier times. Also she has the best balance of attack/magic lol
if i recall right they reveal your wifes pregnancy by having her faint while you are forcing her to trudge through a treacherous mountain pass which sounds about right
I think thatās canonical to charles and diana
yeah and depending on how quickly youre going through the main story it can happen within about an hour in real time of your wedding and implied consummation lol
In the DS version guys wolf whistle at you at your wedding like yeah brother smash that pussy! and it is so fucking funny and gross for a dragon quest game
apparently itās made by the style savvy people! tbf Iāve only played like an hour but at this point Iām not sure thereās a story at all, youāre kinda just dropped into a world.
I did it. I beat Mr. Sunās Hatbox. Itās a great game, it actually rewards paying attention and lets you fully shape your own destiny, but itās not complicated at all. Itās the ideal of a roguelite: a bunch of silly systems that interact with each other in unexpected ways, but without all the overhead of playing a real rogue-ass rogue game.
Did I post about this game at all?? I guess not!!
Itās a comedy stealth game, sort of. Itās more of a platformer (I guess like rogue legacy?? I never played that) that encourages you to not get caught. You take little guys on various randomly generated missions for various randomly generated rewards. Each guy can equip a hat and an item, usually a weapon. These range from normal (hard hats, pistols) to extremely wacky (poisonous fish, position swapping guns). Usually youāre either climbing or descending a tower, but there are also sidescrolling levels like the screen above.
Generally, you end up bopping dudes in the head, fulton-ballooning their equipment back to base, shooting turrets, etc.
Thereās also a base that you have to build and upgrade that increases your capabilities. You have to staff it as well, which involves kidnapping little guys (assuming you donāt kill them first) and brainwashing them. Itās all pretty well considered!
The little guys also have quirks which are usually fucking awful. Like, guy who breaks his gun after the first shot, guy who panics every time he breaks a guyās neck, guy who gets hurt instead of stunned, guy whose bullets only go like 5 feet. So you end up managing this stable of dipshits who canāt do anything right and end up dying for the dumbest reasons. But sometimes when they level up, you get a good quirk, like not triggering traps, throwing items perfectly straight, stunning people who touch you, etc. So itās cool to have these little dumbasses actually get better over time, and managing who you take on what mission depending on their strenghts and weakness is great.
I think that starting from the premise of a comedy game is what makes this work. Lots of stupid stuff can happen (and very quickly!) but the game is shaped around letting that be okay. Like, losing a guy youāve been working on? Not fun. But youāve got like 23 other guys just lined up and ready to go to their death for you.
The funniest one was this little guy i was working on for probably an actual hour of real time (i failed the last mission horribly and so spent like 3 hours prepping for a second run at it), and I confidently took him into a level in the clouds.
Only to immediately slip on a patch of ice and fall all the way to the ground and die.
Like, just the look of shock and panic on my face must have been priceless. Iāll remember that moment forever.
Anyway, I canāt really see going back to new game +, which puts hard time limits on what you need to do. If I want a challenging version of this, Iāll play Heat Signature. But for about 12 hours of play, this game absolutely rocks.
If any of that description sounds appealing Iād just say buy it - itās on sale for a few more days anyway.
Thanks @Grandpa for pointing this out - I would never have heard of it, but itās so exactly up my alley that I bought it almost instantaneously.
Iāve played the game IguaRPG is inspired by, Oddwarg Animal RPG, and IguaRPG is basically a remake of it, the gameplay is nigh identical. Would recommend trying OARPG purely on the basis that it is SO delightfully old freeware game.
Prey good
Playing Mario Wonder honestly reminded me a lot of the Oddwarg/ Hubol collab Super Bogus World except Super Bogus World has way more personality, way more going on, better level-based maximalist twists on the expected, more interesting alternate completion routes for 100% and is free so basically is just unambiguously better (except it doesnāt run great on my computer: the historic computer-based game L).
Finally got around to beginning the metal gear solid series. The first game was mostly what i kinda expected, but i was still really impressed by how cinematic it is and specifically how HOLISTICALLY cinematic it felt, far from the almost separate game + movie mold that games as a whole and for sure kojimaās work adopt later on. Not that I think thatās a bad thing, because Iām kinda here for the story, but yeah. The last quarter or so was a fucking nightmare for reasons that Iām sure are infamous (not tuned in to the discourse around any of these games) but broadly I think the game (i played normal mode) undermines its narrative/cinematic ambitions with boss fights and a couple level segments that are really difficult and, more importantly, really fucking long! Youāll get the deal for a given boss fightās phase and then have to do the same thing at least 20 more times, at which point the spectacle fades entirely and Iām kinda just grumpy.
Little worried about MGS2 because Iām playing a physical copy, and I relied HARD on emulator save states to tolerate parts of MGS1. Fingers crossed itās friendly.
As a little palette cleanser between MGS1 and MGS2 i played Illbleed. It sure is the poster child for how the most interesting games are rarely the best ones lol. I like it and I think it sucks ass. 0/0
Look you shouldāt want to play any more of this one but I just wanted to link that someone with too much time on their hands attempted to correct this. It can only fix that one issue though.
But yeah, no catgirl PMC is totally bullshit. I donāt think these assholes could survive if they read some of the KORPS (furry supervillain shared universe) fic thatās out there lol.
hey itās time for another terrible phone game post
Star Honkers Train: they added a lady who has a blindfold and an ice sword and she sounds composed and then you fill up her character meter in battle and the blindfold comes off and she goes full crazy
I like her because that is in my top 10 favorite idiot anime character tropes and she is strong
I enjoy the new sounds she makes while I have the game on auto while I do something else
Genshin 2nd Impact: oh the plot of the main scenario is about to go full End of Eva
Iām glad a bunch of Eva nerds go to live their dream of making billions of dollars with their fanfic
otherwise my gameplay time consists of being stuck in the gear mine:
Nikke Air Jordans: oh god it reached 1st anniversary why have I not deleted this game
Snowbrak: this is the gun girl game I like, which means itās probably living on borrowed time. they gave the gameās comedy unit a premium, limited version and aside from he fact that sheās a busted off-field DPS (love to invest significant resources into getting a character I see once every 30 seconds), sheās still an idiot comedy unit:
also I guess theyāre doing their summer swimsuit event. in November. oh, you southern hemisphere weirdoes and your upside down seasonsā¦
404 Game Re:Set:
Horse girls: 2
Sega: 0
Thatās a name I havenāt heard anyone mention in a while. Animal RPG was great, as was Destroyermech.
I played MGS a few years ago and that struck me too. Both it and old Resident Evil have this quality of being very movie like without treating the game and story as separate entities. The effort to filter every narrative beat through some new gameplay novelty was really neat
Using the Miyoo Mini Plus to play TripWorld. Despite being a game for babies this is a well designed platformer with some challenging parts. It will probably take a while before i can beat it, since thereās no saves in the middle of the game and Iām not sure how to get extra lives. Attacking āenemiesā feels wrong because theyāre mostly harmless, so I donāt, but that might be the only way to get extra lives? Enemies also donāt become hostile unless you attack, so thereās like zero incentive to, imo. The art is amazing.
ButtCon updates:
We are like halfway through the second strata. Booji is a landsnecht because there was an all pink lil dude there. Shrug is our tank. Sarah is a dark hunter. I found a Rudie for the alchemist, so Rudie is the Alchemist. And rounding out the team is Meauxdal as the medic. Things have been mostly pretty smooth, but some dragon lord guy totally messed us up earlier, so that was fun.
iāve been playing the atelier marie remake. it owns and is really cool. itās a cutesy rpg designed entirely around crafting items. in terms of story and combat, itās simple but serviceable.
but whatās really important is the feature that lets you change the music. atelier marie has some very good music, but if youāre going to give me the option to use the blue reflection soundtrack, then i am going to take it 100% of the time. anyway thatās why this is real goty and better than other gotyās like pikmin 4 and ikki unite.
Mega Man 9
Finished my 5th playthrough. My taste in platformers tends towards the unique and novel. I love Castlevania so much because each entry is like a reboot or at least the beginning and end of its own weird sub series in the span of the couple of hours. Mega Man⦠is not that. It is formulaic whereas Castlevania is formula breaking. It is platforming through rearrangement rather than platforming through reinvention. On that note, I see Mega Man 9 as the highest form of platforming through rearrangement. The most novel elements of 9 are the mid noughties DLC model, structurally and aesthetically everything else is cribbed from the first 6 Mega Men (and 7 if we include the shop). No discernable influence is drawn beyond the NES titles let alone the broader medium. And even at that the little aesthetic and mechanical flourishes 3, 4, 5 & 6 tried to add to the formula are ignored beyond little references like the constellations in Galaxy Manās stage. Its interesting in that even other āretro revivalsā like New Super Mario Bros was never this interior in their nostalgia.
And I still sincerely love it.
There is nothing new in anything 9 introduces but as a rearrangement, it is sublime. Mega Man sort of has my ideal platformer structure. 8 distinct and varied stages in a non linear framework that allows you to personalize your playthrough and define your own difficulty curve. 8 robot weapons that are both interesting to use and also indirectly change how you interact with stages. And then 4 wily stages that tighten the aesthetic and difficulty curve to present a final linear gauntlet that test your mastery of the systems. Unfortunately most Classic Mega Man games donāt execute the above structure well outside of like 2 and 7. Robot weapons tend to be situational and one note. Collectibles make stage order overly prescriptive. And the Wily gauntlets tend to be deflating denouements. 9 in contrast has the most interesting set of robot weapons in the series. Its stage design conveys a delicious kinetic flow in spite of Mega Manās stilted physics because of the purge of excessive systems and abilities. And the Wily Stages are the best, like my favorite āending sequenceā in any platformer. The franchisesās best ideas distilled into an exhilerating obstacle course.
Thereās nothing really profound or new about 9ās iteration of an astro boy clone. Its deliberately rote (and redundant?) in a way I would usually find displeasing but idk I like its consistency and confidence to and I like getting better with it with each replay. 10 & 11 donāt really hold my attention in the same way.
