Games You Played Today VIII: Journey of the Cursed Poster

i used the stratos in my run as its turning is the best, but for some individual levels you might have better luck with the delta. you get a slightly higher top speed if you use manual as well

there’s no major downside to maxing out the steering tune. you can’t make as fine adjustments, but you’ll be able to turn much sharper

tails looks extra pathetic in Sonic Battle for the GBA. a arena fighting game with some very good animations and alright fighting gameplay. probably more fun with other players

Been very busy and a bit too stressed to play much lately so I’ve been jumping around all the ace attorney games on my phone to replay cases here and there. Really intrigued to play through the apollo justice “trilogy” again since I experienced them so piecemeal as they came out and didn’t see them as being unified in the way that the original trilogy and dgs were. I always felt like Apollo was basically reinvented every game because they didn’t know what to do with him But I do love the kid

Mostly picking and poking away at the recent Armored Core 6 update. Details on thoughts over on the AC thread, but by and large it’s a lot more right direction than wrong direction.

I was going through the AA games over the past year and came to the conclusion that I like logic connection system in Edgeworth Investigations more than the psyche-locks. The locks just feel like a wall, whereas the descriptive points of logic you have to connect together tease you about what’s coming up next in the case

playing this doujin msx game called “sekaikei girl”

it can reductively be described as spooky pitfall, where you have to avoid obstacles while moving left to right. it is definitely a lot cooler than pitfall. personally, i’m here for the lo-fi but still very evocative art style. the game is really hard too, i still can’t beat it.

Playstation Tomb Raider 3 is absolutely kicking my ass… I’ve been stuck on Area 51 for a week :cryingpig:

western developers in the 90s loved area 51 so much lol

been playing the 3ds fanport of mario 64 now and then, and though it’s not the first time i’ve played it, i still have thoughts
1 - it really feels like you’re a kid in an indoor soft play. running, jumping and climbing up things, sliding down other things, fetting stuck in pits of stuff, etc.
2 - this must have seemed like an infinitely huge game if you were a kid playing without a guide on release. you can beat bowser after getting 8 stars, but then the game continues. i currently have 15 after what i guess to be a couple of hours’ play. there’s currently a door that requires 30 stars to open. if i’d played this as a kid, i never would have imagined there was 120 stars to find!

I finished Love 3 on a whim today. Nice finale. My post-game statistics are absolutely shameful lol. I found no secrets! Oh well. Moving on to something new now.

The presentation of the psyche-locks are everything for me though. Posing a seemingly innocuous question in conversation with a character only for everything to go dark and the screen gets loudly wrapped in chains. It’s always exciting to see them, and they’re used in a notably impressive way a few times i.e. Mia having them in 2-2, Engarde not having them in 2-4, Iris having them but never actually breaking them in 3-4, and like every instance of black psyche-locks.

Can def understand why mechanically they’re not as engaging to someone but I think that they do coast by on pure overwhelming charisma and narrative significance lol

Tried Super Junkoid on the MisTeR got 30 minutes in and then died and it hardlocked. Welp.

Then tried the middle route of Star Fox EX 1.03 which had me fight Link, Toad, and the Mario Bros at the end. There seems like there might be a lot of secrets hidden in it. I was playing the “real hardware fast rom” which I don’t know if that is the best for the core.

It was cool but also I am not that familar with the real Star Fox.

This reminded me that ages ago I kept picking up random 1000+ games cds as my PC was old and couldn’t really run much, here’s a pic of one of them:

You have no idea how many of these games were just Risk with different shaped maps.

It just sort of struck me that with all the random steam games and giant itch bundles I’ve basically just always been like this.

Anyways I started playing Castlevania III for the first time today (I know nothing about my user title…) and I just have to say that I truly hate vertical stair climbing stages with enemies flying in parabolas. I have died way too many times due to “oh, you weren’t pressing up/down enough so go step off the edge to your immediate death”.

I also made sure to play the Japanese version and not take the Alucard path.

RobertCop: Rogue City demo - they do not make video games like this any more

they took RoboCop and made it half PS2-era B-game first person shootman and half imsim But Stupid. it’s cheap, it’s jank, it’s kind of charming. things like “oh, well, you can pick up a second weapon but your Auto 9 is powerful enough to kill anyone in a single headshot and also has infinite ammo” and “being a good cop means you play Metroid Prime on environments for a minute” make it seem like they have ideas but also hey, this operation ain’t a charity, we gotta ship. even the weird bug I had where the incidental music would randomly cut and restart is like, the game is both well developed and barely functioning

this’d be a good 30-40 buck thing

I didn’t own the game, but had the guide. A friend had the game, and I got to play it a few times as a kid when I visited.

I can 100% confirm it felt FUCKING GIGANTIC.

Tried Dual Hearts (PS2) today on the recommendation of the old SB recommendations page. What a delightful game! I’m in love with my round friend dude (I named him Jobe). Spent a lot of time wandering around the hub town area with my friend and taking screenshots (you can even turn the HUD elements off to take better screenshots!!!)
