ROCK BOTTOMS WHERE WE LIVE
Okay, never mind. I beat it.
Turns out I am thinking about Paper Wings from Burnout 3.
thanks to rock against bush vol 1 i never remember which is rise against or against me! on the first try
EA Traxx clearly had different moods for UG2 and Burnout 3. Underground has more metal/thrash wheras burnout 3 is a lot of pop punk
Played a bit of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with my kid this weekend. My kid, even with steering assist enabled, can barely keep the kart on the track. So to give myself a challenge, and makes things a bit more interesting, I played like Mario Kart was a simcade: not really using items, no power sliding, only straight line/trail braking, and entering most corners wide, turning into the apex, and exiting wide.
(“Trail braking in Mario Kart” you ask incredulously?! Well the wild thing is, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch has analogue throttle and braking mapped to the right stick!)
This only sort of worked because the game isn’t designed to play this way. But on 100cc, I was regularly finishing 1st or 2nd.
In my Biden Juice Delirous State I made wild claims like “I am going to look after my kid today” and “I am going to watch 2 playthroughs of games called Mansion of Hidden Souls” and “I’m going to start Oracle of Seasons.”
Well 2 of those came true. Multiple people looked deep into my eyes and thought that OoS was on my top 5 Zelda games. I went what? I haven’t played it in 25 years or so. I think I even bought it on 3DS.
Well I launched it on my Anbernic and played the first two dungeons. That’s like 1/4th a Zelda game statisticly. Did you know the music is exactly the same as Link’s Awakening? That does not help it not scream Rom Hack at every turn. Who am I kidding a Rom Hack would replace the music with Touhou.
Are there complete rom hacks of LA? Seems likely. I remember trying the 3 “recommended” hacks of LTTP and getting stuck in all of them.
Some of the puzzles have been cleverer than needed me noted Alundra Sicko. The overworld being filled with holes, crystals, and cracked walls does not inspire joy in me. Adding in 4 seasons for every screen and that sounds like a lot of work. It isn’t so far thankfully but I only just got my second season changer.
The unique to these games tiles may be less than 30. I don’t know if I have seem anything unique outside of sprites. ROMHACK.
The (well animated) bosses just being the bosses from Zelda 1 is half charming and half “please try just a little.” I guess they do try just a little because they have twists. seems very breezy and quick and like I could play it before bed and that would be better than looking at my phone.
Oh hell yeah
i’m now realising that my memories of enjoying oracle of seasons date back to playing it on the gp32
Make sure to watch a playthough of Lunacy, too, a prequel to the two Mansion games (the Saturn one being a sequel to the Sega CD one)
Moving house and keeping up with freelancing demands mean I ain’t played shit. Everyone has finished the main quests of Pokémon Scarlett/Violet except for me, it feels like.
I just recently played through Mansion of Hidden Souls in one sitting on the Mega Drive mini 2, where because it’s the PAL version it’s called Yumemi Mystery Mansion.
I’d never heard of it before but it’s pretty interesting. I guess it’s supposed to be horror but it feels mostly sort of whimsical with some spooky bits. The hammy English acting gave it a kind if community theatre vibe.
I ended up brute forcing the final puzzle with save states, not really sure to solve that legit, i assume it’s something to do with the diary but I was too impatient to work it out.
I had no idea there were any sequels, guess I’ll be watching some playthroughs as well
practically all my memories of both zelda oracle games come from watching my brothers play it on some weird GB emulator for DOS back when the games were brand new
while I’m pro-watching Lunacy, without doing too much to spoil it, holy shit CW on the ending
new vegas
hey me too
too proud not to crosspost THE ROOM I DESIGNED IS LIVE IN THE GAME I MADE A ROOM IN GEMSTONE IV HOLY SHIT

bested the Bloodletting Beast in Lower Pthumeru. I recorded the fight and watching it back, it looks easy: only hit by its attacks twice, nailed the mid-health visceral into A Call Beyond while it geared up into its second stage, showboat finisher (another Call Beyond)
not as fun as the Martyr Logarius fight but up there, really had to study and learn what approaches/techniques were complete shit and should be avoided
not shown: the fucking 30 attempts where I whiffed the first dodge on its charging claw swipe the second I entered the room and it one-shot me
also shown: me attempting to sprint and jump to the side to avoid the claw swipe but surprise! it was a punch (which has great tracking) and I get swatted out of the air
2½ more chalices remain for John Blood to complete, hope we get through them by Christmas
