Started Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii as my Halloween game and like… this game is absurdly dark at points so far. I get dark = scary and such (plus as a Wii “conversion” of a PS360 game it can help hide some things) but it’s basically a lightgun game where I literally cannot see the enemies down the path in front of me until they are on top of me. Boosting up the brightness makes the occasional HUD blinding but that may be the better option.
i had a stressful sleepwalking episode last night where i kept rearranging my pillows but couldn’t get comfortable. i didn’t know how to order them because they weren’t numbered.
awake me just realized this is probably related to all the solitaire i’ve been playing.
I keep chipping away at Castlevania Lecarde Chronicles 2. I got to the castle and wow the game was clever at times but the quality took a huge leap in the castle. The enemy placement is tense and interesting. There was a just complicated enough warp area. The bosses have so much HP so you have to play good and can’t just tank them.
It was slow going but in the castle easy to say it is one of the better castlevania games. Not so much metroidvania circling around but more poking at different paths Dark Souls 2 style.
And it has done a great job of giving me multiple options at every point. And making the challenge not just getting the item but then working my way back.
Still wish I had better vertical options. Getting stuck with the knife is a deathwish.
Barely know anything about baseball except that it’s basically an SRPG so I picked up OOTP 23 to learn more. This is the most exciting game of Excel I’ve ever played… there’s even a little 3D simulator to let you watch the game happening.
i like spider-man ps4 a lot
Hacked at C code until I got Angband’s status bar info moved from screen bottom to lower left side, freeing up a line of dungeon display.

I went to A Friend’s House and Played Paprium on a giant TV. Paprium remains deeply impressive and bland. I can find positive and negative things to say about it but they slam at each other at 80 miles an hour and the wreckage spells out The French.
Then we hooked up the genesis to a 68000 monitor and just kept screaming how good the monitor made Paprium look. We played it again then went “No.”
Paprium a video game.
Oh the music is overhearing a jingle from a cigarette vending machine.
Apropos of the season, I finally picked up Silent Hill. Guess 2022 is the year I finally stop being a baby about spooky stuff because I really did it up this year- watching a buncha scary movies and stuff too.
I like it a bunch and had a marathon (for me) play session until 2 AM last night, then promptly again this morning when I woke up until I got to the hospital part. It is helpful that I can play on my bed with the Mister. I get why tank controls are so good for this sort of game! The beginning bit where you’re navigating an alley and the camera moves up overhead as it follows you or like down at a weird low angle is real cool.
I picked up Resident Evil 2 a little while ago and bounced off it immediately. Think that Silent Hill is more my speed. I guess I don’t remember much about RE2, but I feel like Silent Hill is less focused on combat and inventory management stuff. idk, also feels more forgiving? Though, it may just be because I’m playing on easy cos I’m no hero. Also, cops suck. I like being a regular old dad that’s just trying to enjoy my vacation.
I like a lot of dumb little stuff in it like the silly voice acting, how dumb our guy Harry is, the way he like abruptly slams his body into stuff as I’m running around, etc. The atmosphere stuff, obv, is real good and engaging. Reminds me of this movie Pulse I watched on Mubi by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Same sort of empty space, lonely people milling around not really interacting with each other, dreamy haze over everything. Everyone I’ve met just takes off despite the monsters and fog!!
Can’t wait to play after I get off work. Harry and I are in the same boat, man. In need of a real ass vacation
The pizza in Silent Hill 2 is a video game thing I think about a lot.
playing yuke’s’s “wrestle kingdom” reminds me how important “fighting spirit” meters are for the wrestling game genre. these games are mindless without mystic and ethereal forces happening behind the scenes. the wrestling gods are real, bring back “SPIRIT” meters
I change my mind, Vampire Survivors is not that bad, now it’s my best killing time game
had a “i really should try diablo 2 one day” moment in summer, downloaded resurrected and forgot about it until yesterday evening, where i rolled a barbarian and clubbed zombies about for an hour with dummy by portishead in the background
maybe i’ll get into it
the music in road rash 3 is amazing, mega drive chip metal with fast drumming and long wiggly guitar solos
also if you lose a race or get arrested, you get mocked/advised by one of the other racers or the cop who arrested you. these quotes aren’t as nonsensical as i remember them being as a kid. nice that they have stereotypical cops for the different countries too
The new Mario Rabbids Xcom game is the shit. I love it. It’s assembled out of only the parts of these xcom type games that I enjoy and absolutely nothing else. Pure juice
Did you play the first one? I’ve had it lying around for a while and I’ve been thinking of playing it.
I have not played the first one, but part of the reason I played the second one is that all the designers on my team were absolutely in love with the first game and recommended it to me highly. I bet if you have it, it’s definitely worth checking out!
Played through Knights of the Round in Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle on PS4. My character lost his hair and got upstaged by his death trap horse in the end.
wow, there really is someone who plays as percival out there
