King’s Field 2/King’s Field US. I really enjoyed playing through the first half of the game. The second half of the game seemed to drag on.

I don’t know if From Software ran out of time making the game or if they left the some of the secret rooms empty on purpose. I remember being frustrated as a teen while playing the game because the game gives you zero hand holding and drops you right into the middle of this deadly world. Now I love the design choices. I couldn’t imagine a younger gamer trying to attempt the game now.

Started DmC Devil May Cry this weekend. 82 minutes in and I’ve finished two levels. It’s very “story-driven.”

DmC: Dumpy Man Comboer

there are areas in this game I had fun with
some not so much

none of the fun I had was usually because of the combat system,

DmC is a good example of why weapons shouldn’t be keys against enemies

That one design decision did so, so much damage to the flow of combat in that game.

I still remember around the half way point they introduce an enemy that can parry almost all your attacks and can only be attacked after they do a strike of their own. The worst part is they walk around facing you where ever you move as if taunting you saying “Don’t you wish you could do this?”

Are they ever going to put the definitive editions adjustments on the PC version? I’d be willing to give it another try. Skipping all the story bits of course.

vergils combat portions are objectively better than Dumpy’s
also I don’t care what anyone says I LOVE his outfit in this, both of them actually

Is this the one where you fight a big fat Fox News talking head?

yes and ore

I got Kirby’s Epic Yarn for my nephew and nieces a year or two ago. I’d never tried the game myself, though I thought it looked clever.

I just played it a little while visiting them and it’s a very well-designed game. It even has an R-Type level 3-style scrolling shooter stage.

I have a Wii, but not a Wii U. As far as I can tell, Pikmin 3 is the only Wii U exclusive that I’d be interested in. Which is a shame, as I’d like to support the sort of quality that Nintendo sometimes puts out. I guess they focus on their handheld stuff these days, but I have no interest in a portable game system. (Turbo Express is the newest one I own.)

I think this is because how compelling the game is is inversely proportional to how mysterious it is. The beginning is incredible because of how opaque the game is, how fatal, how indifferent. But once you figure it out you’re like, this is fucking slow man.

The Souls games have similar, but flatter, mystery > interest curves. They’re not quite as oblique in the beginning, and therefore feel slightly more gamey and less profound; but when the mystery has worn off, there’s a lot more substance left to chew on. They have more longevity.

It’s Touhou.

Groove Coaster is pretty neat because it always lets you play a full set of song regardless of if you clear or fail, which becomes incredibly useful when you get to the harder stuff because sometimes it can be a real pain to sightread. TGM in a bottle is particularly rough.

Also jubeat is pronounced U-beat, but yeah, everyone thinks the same thing about the name at first. The US App Store release is called jukebeat to circumvent the awkwardness.

i totally agree that the souls games have more longevity, but i think about king’s field 1-4 (and shadow tower+abyss) way more than i think about the souls series. i don’t feel the need to play them again, but the impressions they left seem unceasing and beautiful

Don’t remember this guy

I just picked up King’s Field IV on eBay and I am trying to find Shadow Tower and its sequel. Shadow Tower looks really interesting.

I was thinking of starting Thousand Arms once I complete Vandal Hearts II. Thoughts anyone?

So through a combination of being a dumb kid and maybe being unlucky it took me literally years to figure out how to enter that dungeon. I am certain I tried the correct item but must have not aimed it perfectly and then I just assumed it was wrong for 7 years. After all that time that boss was really anticlimactic

Also worth pointing out that Groove Coaster is based on a phone game that I believe is either very cheap or straight up free to play. Might be worth checking out, @mothmanspirit

I don’t remember him either. Is he a boss from A Link to the Past?
