Yeah, I think the thing that separates Helldivers from other games of its ilk is that it tends to be more about when you don’t shoot as opposed to when you do. It also tends to be really punishing in the sense that when things go south, it’s entirely the fault of the player(s), since even the default loadout you start with can handle most any situation.
It’s also pretty hilarious when everything goes south.
Count me as another person who was basically unaware of OpenMW. I’m going to have to dig out my disc this weekend and check it out.
The last time I played Morrowind was on my old computer and I had a bunch of graphics mods installed so it looked like a more recent game. It was pretty awesome for a while but when I started exploring this one area just outside Vivec it started crashing and wouldn’t stop. Being able to play it again, even if just at my monitor’s native resolution, would be great though.
for the multiple data folders that make mod management so easy: https://wiki.openmw.org/index.php?title=Mod_installation
for gui scaling:
in the settings.cfg, add the line scaling factor = 1.5 to the [GUI] section. You can change 1.5 to whatever, that’s just my own preference for 1080p morrowind.
you can read more about the settings config here: https://wiki.openmw.org/index.php?title=Settings and there are a few more setting worth tweaking (I recommend looking at the game settings section for some tweaks that were previously available only in the morrowind code patch (which is obviously not compatible with OpenMW))
PS it might be a good idea to just move Morrowind talk into its own thread
To be fair there were a set of boots you could obtain called the boots of blinding speed. You could either escort a rogue from one city to another or just turn on her and murder her while you’re out in the middle of nowhere. The name is quite literal: it boosts your speed well beyond what you could obtain normally with the trade off that it blinds you completely.
I like the part where if the game is running over 60 FPS, it’s harder to use items in the world or talk to people and once you hit 120, things just don’t work. Good thing the port has a built-in frame limiter - of 30 FPS.
Well, it’s pretty and has dressup and perfect guarding, already making it a Good Game
that’s a thing you can do? holy shit! that’s so so so so so cool! please make a thread or something when you receive the prints, i’d love to see how they turn out.
Granted, I mostly just did what the game told me and didn’t dick around too much but all told the game only took about 4 or 5 hours playing that way. Might make a good palate cleanser after you finish something heavier (or need a break from same)
you mean like i do in every single TES because fantasy lizard people are the tits
I was pretty pissed the first time i went to all the trouble to help Pemenie and got a pair of magic boots that my wonky argonian feet couldn’t fit into…
that event with the falling wizard was the exact moment that convinced me it was the best game though!
So, uh, Helldivers is actually really genuinely 90% of the way to a great video game. The slog is definitely not the coolest part, but man, emergent gameplay yes. Multiplayer multiplies the engagement a lot, but whoa man, this has a lot of cool game design decisions.
Playing more damn Cactus again, still. Pushing them Infinite Drive scores (which goes by level reached and not score) and apparently I did something and it gave me a stronger version of the first boss and I entered what would best be described as being in the state of mind-flummoxed.
I sure would love if doing these runs weren’t 40+ minute affairs for getting past layer 30, but at least I’m slowly edging my way into top 20.
I think this game does a lot to justify being a game instead of something else, though. I don’t want to get too into talking about my experiences yet though because it’ll be spoilery.
