Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

hey i had a fun weekend with this like 17 years ago ok

According to Steam I played this 11 hours. That said, I think about 3 of those were it just sitting idle while I worked. So about 8?

Yeah like if I seem like I’m being harsh it’s because all of my thoughts about this game are “this is bad” but my feelings about the game are “please let’s play some more.” I’m trying to sort out what the heck I think of this game that I played for 8-11 hours, and I have no idea.

Also:

Soul Reaver 2 is a total mess to try and play with a controller on PC. It’s control options are “Mouse + Keyboard,” “Keyboard Only,” and “Gamepad + Keyboard???” The last one is utterly baffling

I’m using the Mouse + Keyboard with a Soul Reaver 2 profile in Controller Companion, and it works oookkkaayy but camera control is really touchy. I might have to adjust the mouse sensitivity.

That said, it has WAY MORE CUTSCENES which is great. I love the overwrought dialogue in these games, so more overwrought dialogue please. It’s like Shakespeare with vampires and time travel.

I’m also a big fan of sequels that just dump you right into the game as if no time had passed, which Soul Reaver 2 does. It just starts dropping terminology and names on the player, and if this was the first game I had played I would be utterly confused. As it should be. I hope it gets even more obtuse with further sequels.

The spear thrust has an odd timing, but it’s done.

Momodora III finished, though the credits hints that I missed stuff on the way. On hard you are stuck with three hearts, so is unforgiving of mistakes but not actively hating you. I was having problems with Hell until I discovered that you can return the star projectiles back. Nice little games, will play the other two for sure.

Finished Ge4rs campaign just now. Last two chapters were quite satisfying.

no more heroes 1 is surprisingly good, except for the ending which was the kind of 4th wall breaking pop orgasm i expected the whole game to be

no more heroes 2 is not good

on the other hand, cutting off a man’s head so that it flies upward, does a flip, and then lands perfectly back where it started, is probably the best cutscene in videogames

not gonna defend the rest though

The shadows on this character from Trails of Cold Steel makes it look like she had an accident in her pants.

Quite a pained expression she has there too.

This is clearly some kind of eroge. “OOPS!! I Messed Myself Senpai~~~ Vol. 43”

I’ve been playing godeater and that character could of been from that game too. All this stock anime stuff is bleeding together and it’s starting to get annoying.

God Eater inspired me to get a Steam Refund for the first time. This is my entire review of God Eater.

hey so apropos of my complaining earlier this week, gonner is a nice little shooter roguelike

the second world may be too much harder than the first, but the scoring mechanics are nice, the powerups are good and just obtuse enough, and it all pretty much works. I guess the only really unique thing about it is the art – I’d actually seen this in motion months ago and thought it was fantastic, and had to connect that twitter gif to the game that just came out – but it’s the first thing I’ve gotten on steam in a while that I’m definitely not refunding, so there

@Felix what about INSIDE, that’s an indie game, right? It’s gotten good reviews… I want to play it, anyway

Cameltry. I am playing the North American version called ‘On the Ball’.
I found a Super Nintendo with a bunch of games in a junk bin, and bought it. This is easily my favorite part of the mystery game bundle that came with the SNES.

you lost me. Which Pac-Man are you asking about? CE DX+ is the only OG CE on Steam. They now have CE 2. 256 on steam seems ok I guess. There’s also 3D mascot games and old arcade ports. Yet no Pac-Man 2, which I still think is the weirdest lil’ game.

CE is actually on Steam too. It’s included in PAC-MAN MUSEUM.

good to know. And now I know I hate it.

I got Dragon Age Inquisition a long time ago in some kind of flash sale because I felt compelled back in the ABDN days to write a review of the transcendentally awful Dragon Age 2. I tried playing it and got like halfway through the first real area after the tutorial and it just sucks. Sucks as bad as the first Dragon Age sucked, and for the same reasons. The fiction is boring as hell, loaded with goofy fantasy terms and names I can’t give a fuck about. The combat has the exact same problem of pretending to be in real-time, which they push even harder this time with a “hold down the button to autoattack” thing (this series is still trying to ape Mass Effect after all these years), but actually your companions’ AI sucks and if you want to succeed you have to pause like ten times a minute and micromanage everyone by dragging a little pointer around with a thumbstick. Fuck that game, I quit.

Then I got Dragon Quest Builders and I’m so addicted. I stand by what I said upthread about Minecraft building with a thumbstick sucking compared to mousing it but I think they did the absolute best they could translating that control scheme to a Dualshock, and the benefit is the game stays in third person and it’s just so rounded and lovely next to real Minecraft’s pixelated jankiness. Also it’s something my wife can sit next to me and help me design and decorate on our nice big TV and that’s nice.
