I’d be playing Deus ex if the pre load, you know PRE LOADED my game bleh.

It’s probably unpacking. If you see disk-usage, you’re fine, just give it time to do it’s thing.

at this rate it would of been faster to DL fresh… weird.

I was looking for a jRPG to play. I don’t want to hook anything up. I ended up downloading Torchlight 2 and a class mod.

I am kind of really excited about this.

edit: oops well that didn’t last long

I need something where move and kill aren’t mapped to the same button.

play dragon age, I’ve been lukewarmly singing its praises in the FFXII thread

I’ll even upload my MOD PACK for you

I don’t know what felix’s deal with dragon age 1 is it’s terrible and was ugly even when it was brand new

I didn’t say it was good, I’m saying it’s worth playing if you can’t let go of wanting FFXII to be better

am I the only one having trouble drawing a line from “looking for a jRPG to play without setting up hardware” over to “downloading Torchlight 2 and a fan mod”?

I suppose it’s not really strange. There aren’t really any modern Japanese Diablo clones, with most attempts being at least a decade old and the general concept bring edged out by Monster Hunter clones.

Now I kinda wonder where Phantasy Star Online 2 falls along the Diablo/MonHun spectrum

lol, yeah, uh, I that weirdness was intentional. I don’t have any jRPGs on my steamlist and, like, I didn’t know where to look.

To be honest all I really want to play is SaGa Frontier. I guess I could play Romancing SaGa 2 or 3, but the translation patches I found didn’t work.

You could play Romancing SaGa 2 on your phone, in English, right now! It has one of the worst touch screen d-pads I’ve used! Maybe this isn’t quite a recommendation!

If you want a Kawazu experience via Steam, you could always try The Last Remnant. There even seems to be a demo, but I have no idea if it’s representative of the content or performance of the full game:

Here’s the most recent discussion SB had about it: Tell me about The Last Remnant
<stop reverting to old versions of in-progress posts, god damn it>
As for Romancing SaGa…
To my knowledge, no patch for 2 is really worth using, especially since the iOS/Android remake came out in English several months ago. It’d be nice if it was on Steam too, but if you have a sufficient mobile device, it’s often regarded as the peak of the trilogy.

The patch for 3, if you can get it to work, should be a pretty comprehensive translation, certainly enough to explore most of the content. I personally found the writing to be dry and uncompelling, which normally isn’t a problem for me, but in this case served to underline how little care seemed to go into giving the game an identity of its own. It’s aesthetically lush and has plenty of ridiculous SaGa stuff to mess with, but it feels like a meal where all the ingredients were cooked and served without actually mixing them together. Maybe I’ll make a topic about it someday.

I forgot (or didn’t notice until now?) that the original RS finally got a proper English translation a year ago after years of people playing through it using barebone patches. I’m guessing that Minstrel Song is a superior version in nearly every way, but the sheer novelty and ambition of the SNES game means it can’t really be considered obsolete.

Is Minstrel Song legit? I’m fascinated with all of the Saga games but outside of the HG101 articles I never see anyone talking about them. Unlimited Saga is definitely a bucketlister for me, the idea of figuring out a mostly ignored obtuse system and learning to love it is really appealing.

I only ever watched a playthrough of Minstrel Song (in JP, even!) but it definitely seems legit. Has all the familiar Saga jank though, for better and worse.

Load times seemed pretty insufferable if you didn’t use its feature to install to an hdd, though.

Boojiboy and I are huge fans of Minstrel Song. Never Play Minstrel Song.

Wait, that’s like, the One I’d play, what’s wrong with it?

That theme song is amazing.
