Played a couple of iphone adventure games: Shardlight and Primordia.

Shardlight is a great game, great tone, good story, puzzles don’t get in the way. It’s not afraid to be grim and grotesque.
It doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Primordia… I didn’t like it much. Setting is very good but the story is too short, all could have been more fleshed out. Worst offender is the puzzle design, which too often was making little sense and breaking the pace.

Downloaded Destiny 2 again because I was told there was a free catch up armor set for a limited time, and I do want to eventually play The Witch Queen’s campaign on legendary before the new expansion comes out. I can’t believe Bungie is still doing the shit where they boot you straight into the introduction mission for the season if you’re 200 levels under its mobs and can’t deal damage to anything. Getting one-shot by a shank at spawn is not a good returning user experience.

Anyway I’m convinced this entire season’s pirate theme is just an elaborate excuse to have the string ā€œrequires crewmate upgradeā€ in the game

Finally broke down and played fortnite last night.

I think the way they do skin rotations in the store sucks, there are skins I want and I want to spend money on them, but they won’t appear. Every match I play, I get currency I can only spend if I get the battle pass. So eventually the game will probably get me to spend money, because of the limited time offer nature of everything. I looked up a particular skin I want, which was last in the shop several months ago, and is expected to return (according to the website) in early October.

Weapons and ā€œgunplayā€ are better than I remember it being, although last time I played it was circa 2018 and I had a controller. Plopping you into a few bot matches before unleashing you onto the general population makes sense but I don’t have a good idea for how the gameplay and my terrible skills match up against the general population.

I may have to get the battle pass just to understand how these make so much money and why every game copied it.

I briefly looked at Sherlock Year One because one of the achievements tricked me into believing that it had interior decorating, and it has an open world, crafting, and skill trees, and even a little bit of combat. I don’t get why all modern Sherlock adaptations are so enchanted with the aspect of him being a boxer.

I have a PS5 now and have been playing the Miles Morales Spider-man game and my initial two thoughts are that A) that I was not mentally prepared for the quantum leap rumble technology has taken since I last checked in, and B) I couldn’t really notice how exactly this looked better than the PS4 original until someone told me that it apparently is now 60 FPS, confirming once more that is still more or less invisible to me.

Tokyo Xanadu ex+ is sort of like a poor man’s Persona 3, if you made it into an action RPG and deemphasized the Social-Links by about 30%.

After a few hours I realized I wasn’t going to get anything out of this that was worth the time. The plot is C-tier shounen anime stuff: high schoolers take part in clandestine supernatural battles, everyone is deliberately mysterious and spouts a bunch of vague word salad full of Important Sounding Terms etc.

Frankly I’ve got a lot more patience for that kind of thing if I’m reading a trashy manga or watching some random anime. But if all that is my reward for bland dungeon-diving, no thanks.

Splatoon 3 is a video game-ass video game

I want to give Nintendo my money and play their #StanBigMan simulator

even the simple, idiot idea of ā€œwhat if Splatfests had three teamsā€ is some next level Nintendo bullshit

I can’t believe Nintendo made a better online shootman lobby than 95% of all shootmans, I’m embarrassed for other games

I’m not liking fortnite, finding the variety of skins they have on sale generally unappealing, and what’s in the battlepass to be generally unappealing. The game’s fine enough but I don’t think the novelty of being goku and shooting darth vader with a sniper rifle is there for me.

I enjoy the squad based combat with a lot of variety in weapons/tactics/locations/etc and the skins are just goofy fun on top of that, like someone said mashing toys around in a toybox

I can’t wait to see what skins are available on the shop tomorrow at 8PM EST…and, also, to win again and again
