Games You Played Today Classic Mini

It would be my first left 4 dead-alike, actually. I never played any of those. It just kinda seems like fun and I’m burnt out on Destiny 2 again, so I’m sorta looking for something in that direction but not quite. This seems to scratch that itch but I didn’t think about the fact that this is mostly melee… I wish we still had demos for games. Guess I’ll buy it and try it for <2 hours and refund it if I don’t like it

yeah, I just watched that half an hour ago! It’s great and I wish I could play Lost Odyssey somehow. Been wishing that for 10 years now it seems, how time flies

I have committed the greatest gamercrime of all time…

I have…

Played the Lady Campaign…

In this WW2 game…

I’m sorry to all those who served… :cryingpig:

you’re a norwegian resistance fighter who wrecks a shipment of heavy water in pursuit of your sciencemom I mean it’s an fps campaign vignette for a multiplayer game in 2 0 1 8 so it’s not that great but it’s fine

you have skis

you blow up nazi shit

people are really mad about this?

In the “disrespected French colonial African troops” section they do a good job of grounding you in the milieu through equipment.

“Assholes gave me a fucking chauchat?” is a thing I said out loud at my television set.

I mean your mileage may vary I guess.

I don’t know what your feelings are re:the chauchat.

But maybe when you see that distinctive magazine you’ll realize these white jerks really don’t care if you live or die.

about this one especially because it’s based on a famous true story. in real life the mission was completed without firing a single shot. it makes people very mad that the real life badassery wasn’t translated into the game’s mission. I… have absolutely no opinion on this

Yeah I’m familiar with the actual mission, which is written off as failed in a line of dialog in the opening of the level (they say they caught the people who made the attempt). Then they use the situation as a springboard for some shit that’s probably more action-packed and dramatic than anything a single resistance fighter ever went through in the whole war, but…

It’s a Video Game.

That’s what happens in Video Games.

I mean I know the answer is They Put A Lady In It Oh No but

Lost Odyssey is really fucking bad. Oh my god. The story vignettes are available outside the game in a variety of languages.

There is an achievement if you click on every single pot, chest, plant. There are so many of them.

There is an hour long wedding scene like this it was Dear Hunter that amounts to running back and forth endlessly and clicking on random things to get things.

A big plot point is you are a thousand years old AND have amnesia. So uhh plot.

Well i misremembered it is a funeral instead.

Riveting.

People were also mad as hell about a prosthetic arm and a katana? I think? As customization options?

Meanwhile I popped into Call of Duty WWII and if there’s some concern about respecting war and the era, it clearly doesn’t apply to COD. The customizations in that game are wild.

Very important to maintain realism in a game where you leap out windows and off bridges and bunnyhop around and whatnot.

people were mad about black lady nazis in COD WW2 too, just 1. they weren’t as loud and 2. Activision didn’t publicly tell people who didn’t like that to not buy the game

and that’s why we have videos celebrating EA going broke over getting woke

Everyone just kind of ignored it but I still think about the COD director calling the game WWII fanfiction

I picked up some cheap Atari 2600 plug-n-play joystick because I like some of the games on it. I expected shonky emulation, but I didn’t expect some of the games to CLEARLY not be the 2600 versions. I tried to find which versions they were but it looks like they may have been made just for this? But other games are the accurate 2600 versions? It’s officially licensed, too! I returned it because I mainly wanted it for Missile Command and the version on this one sucks. THE EXPLOSIONS DON’T EVEN CHAIN.

I also played Ys Origins which I got from Limited Run games. I’m going to go ahead and resell this one, it feels like a game from 2005, but a very mediocre game from 2005. It’s fun enough, but just feels too dated and there isn’t enough meat on the bones.

And now I’m playing Thumper which is incredible, most of the time. I feel the difficulty curve is a bit too steep and when you hit a brick wall it really breaks the feeling of intensity and the rush the game gives you otherwise. But I probably just need to get better at it.

Frank Cifaldi was recently talking about Intellivision plug and plays that are actually NESs on chips so all the games were actually ports to the NES. So they might have been made for the PnP NES ports.

How do you feel about other Ys games?

Yeah Thumper rules.

Someone else mentioned this to me. It was a very interesting read! This must have been the case. It’s so odd that some of the games felt like accurate recreations, while other ones were wwwaaayyyy different to the original. Like I took one look at Asteroids and knew it couldn’t be done on 2600 hardware (also I grew up with the 2600 version so I instantly knew it looked and played wrong).

Pretty much the same way I feel about Origins. Fun enough, but dated and not enough meat on the bones. So, I guess I shouldn’t have expected more. Frankly I don’t understand the big following, but each to their own.

Yes, especially now that I’ve gotten less crap at it. When you’re good at it, it feels REAL good, it just also feels real crap when you’re rubbish at it.

Think it’s fine if they exclusively refer to it with the period-accurate terms Hasenspringen and so on

ys origin is based on the ark of napishtim engine, so it kind of is a game from 2005
play ys viii, ot’s like if they made a 3d zelda game that was fun and exciting
