Games You Played Today Classic Mini

also just gave Slavic Wife Wants You To Abandon Your Dreams Simulator a shot for half an hour and sadly I don’t think they’ve really gotten much better at doing this since 2033 when a lot of their competition sure has

the shooting is an absolute jankfest from the start so it’s just as well they’re basically making stalker now

Unfortunately you play the previous game for two hours before they show you the new game in an open level.

The new game is pretty good! It’s closer to Stalker than it’s ever been, with some interesting ambient life interactions (I’ve noticed that if I get attacked by a wolf rat, I get one shot and then need to run into the bushes because a pack will come sniffing the body).

Unfortunately it’s also closer to Bethesda Fallout than ever before, with isolated cult-cultures and ‘find my teddy’ quests.

The jankfest you’re describing is their body modeling?; it’s still in the odd wobbly heavy body and I don’t think it’s bad as much as a platypus-level niche these days, now that Quake-like movement has incorporated body features like arms on walls, wallrunning, etc. without losing the gliding camera feel. I don’t love it and think they need to look at how the heavy-body horror games have been doing it, but it pays dividends when you’re handling the guns with the unique interactions like pumping up your airsoft rifle.

also the way the monsters animate and react to being shot and inflict damage is total shit and I feel like it actually got slightly better in redux before apparently getting worse again

and the little details strewn around the lived-in environments have definitely been outdone by recent horror games

They have a lot of animation popping/blending issues. I think the reaction feedback is passable when it works but it fails to play or pops to a turn animation often enough that the inconsistency is really damaging.

I’ve been wanting to play Factorio again for a while. But it seems as if every time I open Steam, there is a post by the devs about all kinds of things they are adding. So I keep waiting until they hit a plateau.

In other news, I’ve still been playing EDF 4.1 a lot. I didn’t think I liked the Air Raider class much at first because you are so vulnerable between vehicles without a decent basic weapon, but it’s a lot of fun to run around in a spider tank or to call down a missile strike on some Hectors.

is air raider viable for single player play?

You’ll need to farm for appropriate weapons occasionally but yes, it can be done.

Ahh I really want to play this, but I don’t think my laptop would be up to the task of running it, I guess this isn’t coming to Switch or PS4 anytime soon?

my wife is at least happy that instead of spending their larger budget on better shooting they spent it on making Slavic wife more disappointed in you

I get what game you are talking about but this is almost as impentrable as a Rudie post.

That reminds me, the Skaen island in Deadfire feels like an homage to Sunless Sea, right?

That kind of thing is even better in the context of a relatively cheerful game like Deadfire. I just sat there stunned thinking “holy shit the game really let me do that”

i know i was critical of re2 in some post, but i’ve been still enjoying it a lot. now that I’ve met Mr. X, and depending on how well they keep utilizing him, I might even say that his presence in comparison to original alone might even put this remake on the same level as the original.

Ubisoft finally got around to giving us Project Stream testers and cheap assholes our free AC:O copies

Oh God it looks so much better running locally instead of a stream for obvious reasons. Also I kind of like it? It seems well made and compelling even though I openly recognize it’s almost literally a single-player MMO with occasional open world shenanigans (I went to go kill a guy to clear the bounty on my head and ended up fighting with him, one of the mercenaries the game has hunting you down and a giant bear that wandered in because the compound guards were dead)

I’m almost afraid to install it because thanks for my aging rig I get the feeling it’ll actually look and run worse than the streaming version. I kinda wish that was still available to be honest!

It’s a good game, just…be ready. I think I cleared the story (but not the game itself) like…130 hours in.

Also, play as Kassandra.

the hell kind of rube do you take me for

of course I’m playing as Kass

Just makin’ sure!

got star wars battlefront 2 because it was $6. it is not good at all! like, sometimes there’s fun to be had, but most of the time you end up getting one-shot halfway across the map by shit you couldn’t see, you get teamed up with people whose idea of “defend the point” is “actively run away from the point,” and obi-wan immediately shows up and insta-kills you with no effort. probably doesn’t help that the guns have no accuracy at all (seriously, of all the things to adapt from star wars, that’s what you went with?).

I have put a couple hours into this rebalance/feature-add hack of SD3. I am liking it. It has selectable difficulty, and seems to be aimed primarily at increasing the difficulty and giving you more options to deal with it, etc.; but I’ve been playing on “Easy”.

I moved my eMac into the living room and have been playing it in there, along with the Allstars version of SMB2USA both in the PowerPC port of Retroarch, which I hadn’t realized is actively maintained with all the runahead and crt switchres stuff in tow, though even the boss hog 1.42ghz g4 cannot manage a single frame of runahead in even the snes9x2005 core, and the crt stuff doesn’t seem to work as intended so gotta handle that manually.

SMB2USA has better sprites than 3 in both NES & SNES variants.

I also had assumed that there was a ppc port of that Weather Channel emulator but there isn’t. But also I had assumed that Current Condition didn’t work any more but it do.

But also also, this guy just straight up made an html5 version of ws4000 that just works. Real cool.

Finished AM2R last night, roared with that expansion on the Metroid Queen. Not very difficult with all the energy/missiles you can recover but proper frantic and intense, to turn a series of screens into a long battled corridor. Rad. Aside from Super’s cinematic final showdown and some of Echoes, easily one of my favorite bosses.

The majorly revamped, additional areas cleared out a lot of SR-388’s narrow pathways and can no longer be as disorienting, much like anything done after the first two games. Whatever’s lost there I don’t mind a whole lot as they’re well constructed and work into the original scope of M2 and the Chozo’s presence. Kinda bonus zone (federation ship) Hoth was cool if not a little excessive as a tie-in.

Wasn’t planning to try Samus Returns but now I just really want to contrast w/the “legit” remake.
