part of the joke is he is getting new friends, they’re just hidden away in the comics (though I guess technically they’ve made inroads towards being canon as they’ve been added to Sonic phone games)
also Sonic Forces gave him a cool new villain in [REDACTED] but I think Sega doesn’t want us to remember him

this doesn’t really mean anything, Sega is trying to memory hole Silver and Blaze for the crime of having their own plot in Sonic 06, despite Silver being a main character of that game and Blaze being straight up alt universe female cat Sonic

the most recent new character in a non-phone game was barry, the non-binary quokka protagonist of the murder of sonic the hedgehog

Oh yeah lol how could i forget that Sonic visual novel April Fools “prank” that actually completely slapped ass!! and was a great justification for Sonics extended cast. best since at least like Sonic Adventure
tho i mean if we’re counting the IDW comics then yea Sonic has loads of new friends/enemies and they all rule, i fuckin love Whisper and Tangle and Surge and Kit etc.
(those comics also singlehandedly made Silver and Blaze into actual characters i could give a shit about!)

both the combat and the breadth of quests in rogue trader are getting even better… I keep going back and forth between “this game is admirably complex in ways I like but padded in strange ways and not necessarily very good” and “this game is actually very good with caveats.”
chapter 1 badly needed like 40% of the combat cut back if they were gonna take this long to make it more interesting though. the writing otoh… is kind of fantastic? it has a lot of personality for how inevitably dry it is, it’s the one kind of bloat that is almost all upside.
