I’m liking Castlevania III! The backgrounds and color pallet are great. And it doesn’t feel laggy to play, for once.

Bowser in Bowser’s fury is maybe the most un-Nintendo shit I’ve seen in a Nintendo game, which would probably be annoying in any other game but here I really really like it.

Bowser just appears randomly to teleport and rain fire and breathe giant fire lasers at will, and generally completely ruin the balance of the perfectly curated bite sized Mario challenges. Some stars are near impossible to get after Bowser has appeared, and you’re better off going for another one, or even dying on purpose, so Bowser goes away for a while.

Playing the game, I always diligently went for all those very easy filler stars that could only be found after Bowser has appeared. (And generally went for the easiest stars I could find) This was a terrible mistake. As I got closer to the endgame, Bowser appeared more and more frequently until it was 100% Bowser all the time for the last few stars. But I really had no easy stars left to get and was left in a mad scramble running all around while Bowser was chasing me for like 30 minutes. I had previously suspected that this could happen to raise the stakes, but assumed Nintendo would never trap me like this. How did 2020s Nintendo release this

I was sick of Bowser’s shit by the end of the “story” in that game, so when I beat it I figured, hell yeah, now some laid-back mop up time. First thing Bowser Jr. says is “oh my dad is mad again” and I shut it off.

Subpar Pool is a pretty cute little mobile game. Your goal is to clear tables of billiard balls under par – “Sub Par”. Challenges and trick balls with special properties mix things up. I got it because I like some of the dev’s other games. 3 stars outta 5

I took a break from Silent Hill to Silent Hill Short Message. It almost wraps around to being good art because it is so tasteless, lunk-headed, melodramatic.

Like having the player character jump off a building before cutting to “Silent Hill respects mental health if you’re having a problem please get help” then you respawn and the character yells “But I just died” and it does this Three Times.

I eventually just quit because I need ro go to bed and running away from the knife bonsai tree was getting dull. It’s tense. The player character screaming in my ears every time she respawned was also the reason I quit that Swery game.

It’s shocking because it really is full on and believes what it is selling.

There was one piece of bullying grafitti that really tickled me “No One Likes You At This School.”" At this school really made me laugh. I guess the game is set in Germany even if all the cultural stuff says America or Japan.

Did you know the Japanese no longer respect suicide? and now it is a shameful thing. Oh yeah also this game is about a Japanese Witch. Silent Hill stuff.

the bullying stuff in resident evil shadows of rose was really great

you have to find dolls to complete dioramas of shit they did to rose at school and she’s quietly going “ugh i get it” and “yeah yeah fuck you” which helps lampshade the Game Design contrivance

there seems to be a lot of horror games that feature bullying.

i thought it was just rule of rose

Only in the US, though. In the UK they’re about Canis Canem Edit.

My attempt to play anything on my PS4 has devolved into dicking around with a bridged Internet connection from my laptop because the dog shit WiFi antenna in this console can’t reliably connect to my network. Also I had to hard reset the controller again. And naturally my laptop wanted to give me problems about the network bridge too.

All this while furtively trying to play 30 minutes of anything while my whole family is napping

Alright I finally got things up and running and I decided to try Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition.

Dear lord, there is way too much plot. I don’t want to sit through this. The character models are grotesque in a way that might not have seemed so bad on the original release but with the extra resolution, woof. The animations also stand out as being real bad. And they want me to watch these guys talk to each other a bunch?

I thought maybe the whole kill-chain high score stuff might be fun but they’ve got way too much self-serious FPS melodrama and bad quippy saracasm dialogue in here for me to hold my nose and operate this controller at the same time. Good thing this one was something I claimed off PS+ so I can bail without remorse. I don’t think I even worked my way through one full magazine of ammunition in this game.

The ending had that extended sequence where Bowser was back to normal and I kept thinking « how are you supposed to destroy Bowser blocks in the postgame with no giant mad Bowser to destroy them?? »

Then Fade to black - The End - Load save -
And immediately, Bowser JR: « Unfortunately Bowser is mad & giant again somehow »

The shamelessness of this cop out was very funny to me TBH

Looks like it was directed and written by the guy in charge of the brand right now, so I guess this was his pet SH project.

I was listing absurd details about this game to Dylan today and I couldn’t stop. It’s a mille-feuille of poorly executed ideas.

Detention is this game but excellent and about the country it is made in and the guilt we all carry with our actions. Fantastic game.

Was on a mobygames trawl a while back and made the slightly ridiculous discovery that the director of this is also responsible for writing the script for Pikmin 1 and 2…
