also i played space marine 2: it’s ok. it’s slightly too hard and much too self-serious and at no point does anyone point at the player character and shout the name of the game, so like what is even the point (wow! triple “point”). they added a parry/counter to your moveset, which on paper i approve of (i played space marine 1 again immediately after beating 2 and was like oh yeah a counter would be nice hey) but in execution i think it’s spoiled somewhat by the encounter design; too often the…

i beat space marine 2 again (i wanted to see how i felt about it after the first round of updates and adjustments) and on a second playthrough i think it’s great! the difficulty is just right, the pacing is spot-on, the kinaesthetics are subtle and effective, and the boss-fights are actually good! a tps with fun bosses? unheard of!
also it’s like, a real videogame. it has discrete levels and a proper single-player which feels kinda rare at this scale (and in this format).
idk if they’ll get enough time to make the next chapter as polished (sorry but i can’t think of a better, less loaded word) as the first but i’m more excited for it now than i was after my first go.
