Completed my 200th cumulative day on Ring Fit Adventure. Very close to completing new game plus.
I played some Phantasy Star Online (Ver.2, for Dreamcast), and what an odd game. Definitely a bit rough around the edges to modern eyes, but really interesting. I sent a good forty minutes or so wandering around Forest 1 wondering when I would get told what to do, and only then did I discover how you actually obtain quests (hint: you have to go talk to the Hunters Guild on the ship, the game doesnāt make this especially obvious).
The rhythmic hack-and-slash combat wasnāt what I was expecting, and took a bit to get used to, but I got there and now Iāve completed a handful of the first couple of waves of quests. I appreciate the comic book style of the cutscene dialogue, and also that the Japanese version has full English support, which makes it a much cheaper game to try out; European and American copies are ridiculously expensive in comparison.
Excited to see more, and hoping to take it Online for real (the Sylverant server is active, and with a DreamPi, a real game key, and a boot disc depending on your copy, you can play pretty easily) when Dreamcast Live are running a game night sometime.
why wouldnāt you just do blue burst at this point?
Hey, I just did all the side missions in the game and Iām moving onto new game plus myself! Iām also making good on my promise to be more active outdoors and Iāve done a lot of preparation in the past month. I have bought a skateboard and bike, and I cleaned up the two kayaks that have been sitting under a tree for the past year.
i been thinkin about blue burstin later this summer myself
eh, vanilla/Ver.2 is fine if youāre dipping your toes in and seeing what the fuss is about. I would really only say play Ep.1+2/BB if you want to really check out ultimate, since ultimate in Ver.2 is some dumb, unfun bullshit
then you skip over PSU because we donāt talk about PSU (I guess PSP 1+2 are fine, funny how giving someone not Sonic Team the game made it good) and then maybe play PS 0 (between PSU, PSP, PS 0 and PSO2, 0 plays the most like PSO)
PSO2 is what you play when you think youāre too good for something like Genshin Impact or too lazy for Monhun
edit: itās important to know that PSO2ās endgame is fashion/the fashion gacha
because I have a Dreamcast keyboard and itās fully connected to the internet, and futzing with a PC game doesnāt really feel that interesting to me
Yeah this is the sort of thing that subtly alters the whole framing of a videogame in your mind.
I think the closest experience we had outside of Japan was in the late 90s with the three FF7 discs. That was so important to make the game feel ābigā the moment you opened the box, and then within the game it symbolized the advancement of the story.
(I almost wish FF6 had also had two discs so that it would ask you to switch when the world turns into Ruin)
the main upside to playing BB is that you get 10 hotkeys for whatever dumb bullshit you want to bind
Iām going to be honest with you, this is really only useful if youāre playing a force or a cast
itās incredible that dragon quest 7 (an 100+ hour game) is only 2 discs, while panzer dragoon saga is 15 hours and takes up 4
For me the real shock like that was when I first got access to emulators and saw that for instance, SMB3 is 384 kilobytes and FF6 is 3 megabytes. My main point of comparison where I knew the size all along was PC games that typically used about 5x that in the same years of release, and yet didnāt feel like they contained nearly as much āgameā as those ambitious cartridge titles.
(ofc nowadays 3 megabytes is like just the texture data for one single concrete wall you walk by without noticing)
Sad to report that the current build of DDD has ballooned to a whopping 74MB.
Was so proud of the day it hit 69ā¦
This is the one thing that will probably get me to take project creep seriously, actually
Watching partner play Wolfenstein II and remembered MachineGames are doing a fucking Indiana Jones game next. What a waste
I dunno I mean Indiana Jones also killed some Nazis?
If itās the same Lucasfilm IP handling as Star Wars it will somehow be bloodless laser tag and night sticks
(Vastly prefer BJ to Indy but even on its own terms it wonāt have the violence they excel at)
Yeah this is so true. We definitely wonāt be gibbing dudes into chunky kibble with Indy.
Not unless thereās a plane taxiing on a runway, anyway
Any one of the vignettes on Evaās Hammer is better than every conversation in Mass Effect
Papetura is the latest game with music by Floex. I just played it in one sitting. (Itās short.) The graphics are all based on paper models.
Hereās a part where you catch fish.
Hereās a good song from the soundtrack.
