Demon’s Souls custom server makes world tendency optional. Should I keep it or no?

the servers are too dead to get changes in world tendency with any frequency

Got to level 2-5 on Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Novice and even though it’s Novice (I’ve only ever played Normal before) this game is no fucking joke. Went ahead and continued since once you hit loop 2 you at least get to fight Hibachi.

Just look at this shit!

I love it.

Can’t decide if I want to aim for consistent loop 2 on Normal or try to 1cc all the way through Novice. I was really close to hitting the final boss when I lost my last life, so with some smarter bomb and hyper planning I think I can do it.

playing Psychonauts for the first time, the camp areas are good! even after a decade plus of gradually feeling burnt by 3d hub worlds i’m enjoying climbing around and doing the goofy tony hawks grind across benches for some reason, bumping into people aimlessly hanging out but in that very deliberate kid way. a nice touch is that “parking lot” is a dedicated area. the writing has a similar laidback feel and makes me wonder if the writers were particularly happy to get away from, like, the adventure game logic where every named interactable character just becomes an obstacle to game, trick or bully on the way to some objective. enjoying that the distracted disinterest of the other campers is not necessarily treated negatively or as something to solve, especially compared to the creepy interest of the adults.

the brain levels feel gamier than expected in a less good way so far, i liked the idea of “figments” at first, the glowing 2d pictures that are placed around the levels, as a nice way to emphasise the dollhouse nature of these areas and have little cartoony mini-stories happening in the background for you to run into, but it gets a bit less cute when sheer volume makes them something you just need to clear out to make the screen readable at times. there is also some of my absolute least favourite videogame tendency, that of having constant soundbarks yelling at you to speed up and go do the thing, but maybe that was mostly just the army level. remember that one bit of earthworm jim 3d where it’s implied that earthworm jim fought in the somme. anyway have heard good things about some of the later more horrific levels so looking forward to those.

I showed Psychonauts to my young nephew a couple years ago. I vaguely remembered some segments being quite frustrating but I couldn’t remember exactly which parts (other than the circus) and I kind of hoped he’d lose interest before we reached those parts. But I at least wanted to get through the milkman part, and we did.

I originally bought Psychonauts used, not knowing much about it. I later felt a little guilty about that after discovering how much I liked the game, but I’ve now purchased it once or twice (albeit at a steep discount) on other platforms.

crazy to me that Psychonauts is not on Switch. I keep wanting to recommend it to some people in my life who only play on nintendo consoles, but alas.

I only played the first level of Psychonauts before dropping it (circa 2010) and the main thing I remember is my disappointment at the bad 2005-era conventions it uncritically adopts same as every other mediocre 3d game on the PS2. Now that thecatamites mentions it, I especially remember the loud, insistent voices telling me what to do

It might have some interesting concepts later in the game but personally I am unable to look past that kind of thing. It’s the reason almost all the games I truly love from this period are on the GBA

can’t believe a game released in 2005 would play like a game released in 2005

I got a copy of Hitman 3 demo with the DLC for Hitman 2 per the recommendations I got.

I know it’s partly because of the proliferation of modes and content, but I’ve never been so disoriented by a game’s main menu

I decided to get into Hitman with 3 and then pick up the levels for the first two games and boy, that was a special journey.

My save on the GF Remastered is on the part where you control the hot rod and I somehow created a situation where it’s impossible to progress or leave the vehicle. I load up the save now and then and reflect on the fact that I’m forever soft-locked and cannot progress which seems thematically on point.

That can still happen in 2021!

I’m installing MGS4 to disk

Believe me I know, I had the opportunity to complain directly to Tim Schafer more than once and bit my tongue

I know it shouldn’t matter that much, but I infinitely appreciate the standard Clap Hanz weirdo cast with their bespoke animations much more over the generic interchangeable avatar people of Everybody’s Golf. It sucked about 30 percent of the personality straight out things!

Clap Hanz Golf is also immediately fun like the older games where as Everybody’s Golf seems to be holding back in service of a longer grind.

Someone somewhere mentioned Deadly Premonition PS3 ran like crap. I found out I had never loaded up the game though bought on release. I had played the 360 and Red Seeds Profile versions.

It took me a while to remember yes no matter what the game does run this bad. Also they added a really stupid framing device that just wastes your time. Give me back the non-director’s cut. Having a giant Twin Peaks Fan Game is one thing breaking it up even further with more horseshit sucks.

I also finally bought Super Rub A Dub. Gonna put all my ducks in a row.

There’s very little left on the table about MGS4 as a Metal Gear game but I’m bowled over returning to it to find it’s still an amazing technical accomplishment and feels great. The consistency, motion blur, and short animations make it smoother than any of its contemporaries (e.g. Gears 2) and even next to MGSV’s obvious advantages.
