was randomly gifted a copy of wwe 2k battlegrounds earlier in the week. this game is absolutely a case of what happens when “keeping it chibis” goes wrong.

it came with our new PC because it had a CD rom or something? i just vaguely have a memory of the music being this like incredible elevator music and just being like “oh shit elevator music can be good???”

Ok yeah the Titanfall 2 campaign has some very cool setpieces but I really wish all these guns and this movement and this visual design was located in some other game that didn’t have just the worst damn writing I’ve ever heard

low profile nerf getting replaced with verbally dragged thru the mud nerf in latest patch notes
the multi was also fantastic, and it’s one of those games where the ideal experience winds up taking the campaign as just a taster, so you’re missing that angle

finally tried the triangle strategy demo and I’m cautiously optimistic – it’s definitely taking tactics ogre as its foremost inspiration ahead of FFT or anything else, and the writing is about as leaden as most Matsuno cover acts, but I like that they’ve committed to the scripted dioramas for the storytelling, the aesthetic works better than it did for octopath (which I didn’t play), the job differentiation is actually pretty good and the pacing/danger that your units can find themselves in is fair without being boring.
I’m just afraid I’ll be feeling so charitable that I’ll wind up playing the new disgaea before this too

Apex Legends has the worst characters with the most dismal writing maybe I’ve ever seen? They’re almost all dull, stock stereotypes with occasional shallow tokenism applied over them. They’re constantly spouting sub-Shrek-quality quips that take them beyond boring and into actively irritating. They never stop talking, before, during, and after matches.
Here are the two I find most annoying:
This greasy cockroach of a man seems to be modeled very closely after Ted Kaczynski for some reason? His main ability is to drop handmade poison bombs around the map. He has Kaczynski’s same psuedo-intellectual self-importance and sweaty yearning to be taken seriously as an academic, and the same weird right-wing death drive. Every time he places a bomb, he calls it a variable.

“Without pain the body suffers in silence… omitting the entertainment.”
“Know your place… I know mine.”
“If I may be honest, I find death fascinating.”
“My thesis: the willing will survive.”
Supposedly a very accomplished astrophysicist, this lady is 1/2 Scottish stereotypes and 1/2 2006 reddit “I fucking love science” memes. There is absolutely nothing to her beyond that. She only talks about drinking tea and how much she loves the vague concept of science.
“Time for experimentation, evaluation and a wee cuppa tea.”
“Science time! Ooh, yaldi!”
“In the name of science!”
“We do this… for science!”
“Violence for science! Oh, quite the catchphrase, that!”
“Reckon I made them see stars. (laugh) See stars, because I’m an astronaut, see?”

I try picking up apex about once a year thinking “surely respawn have done their usual high quality work by now” and every time I’m disgusted and put it down after about half an hour
