I’m impressed you never told this one before, lots of range as an origin story imo

playing the big important ps2 games is not the true ps2 experience

playing steambot chronicles is the true ps2 experience

I definitely did a lot of this on my first PS2 about two years into its use. I remember it really started dying after playing anime dvds with heavy subtitle stuff going on (KareKano and rightstuf went the extra mile to have soft subs for all the signs, gags and some notes if you left them on). After a certain point I just couldn’t get it to read DVDs at all but I could still play PS1 and Blue Back PS2 games.

RMA that thing, same problem they’ve always had and they’ll probably just send you a new one once they get it

a PS2 is just a PS1 + PS2 so why would you hate it

Freeing up enough “blocks” on a save dongle and waiting 20 seconds whenever you save is the PS2 experience

this ps2 nostalgia made me think of going into the little games shop in town after school to pick up an rgb cable a couple of weeks after buying the console + how the conversation i had with the lad who owned it could probably have gotten us twenty grand on patreon in 2021

I demonstrated this for a speech class presentation. Got a good grade but was docked for wearing a ball cap which I had only wore nearly every day so far but whatever. A fellow classmate told me they had successfully fixed their ps2 issue tweaking with that little gear like I had shown them.

I miss the little unique to each game icons each games save file had.

the ps2 was easily-broken fickle hardware but it has like 10 beatmania iidx games so who can say really

I like that PS2/original XBOX extend their black box physical design vibe w/ sort of oblique UIs. Current consoles just as (if not more) confrontational looking but the interfaces r all so slimy and trying 2 trap you.

I just took apart an Elite Series 2 and X|S controller for unrelated tune ups and the part retaining the bumpers is revised on the Elite S2 and again on the X|S version. On both the cover for the section with the USB port is now redundant reinforcement and the action works with or without it present which is an improvement. I would stop using a 3mm wide strip of ABS as a spring but what do I know.

oh I like this as shorthand

anyway I wish the elite 2 seemed to be worth the money because it feels pretty good in your hands but there are still too many build and quality of life issues imo, maybe an elite 3

(and realistically I think they should get the price down to more like $120 for it to seem less like an absurd indulgence)

I would like to see them put Hall effect sensors in now that we all hate Alps potentiometers

I’m honestly just not that into this super high end product category, my favourite controllers I’ve used in recent years have been the SN30 Pro ($40) and the X|S controller (also $40), after having tried briefly both an elite 2 and a scuf

I occasionally open up craigslist and see if anyone’s selling an attractive looking one but eh

the DS4 back button thing has proven way more likable than anything that actually ships with paddles
