arresting ff7 rebirth for open world crimes
Waiting for you to realize the horrible truth, which is that instead of a serviceable zelda arpg type thing the game turns into an incredibly annoying pad-controlled rts, instantly ruining all of its vibes
controlling hordes of dudes is very silly, maybe it sucks but I donāt really care
I feel like Giants Citizen Kabuto and Brutal Legend might be a good comparison given the amount of pseudo RTS in an otherwise unique comic action adventure.
Brutal legend felt more like Sacrifice than Giants to me
My favourite part was definitely driving around the environments with the car radio blaring and kinda wish that was just the whole gameā¦
I Beat Cave Story. The normal ending was reached with a minimum of frustration. The consensus is in; When I played this game at 14 I was simply bad at video games.
I found the final boss rush to be a little bit of a drag just on the weight of cutscenes, and I also thought the final cave was very stop and start, but other than that the second half of the game was incredibly enjoyable, and mostly went from strength to strength.
Iām certainly in the bottom quartile of platformer players on this forum but I have to say the machine gun is some of the most fun Iāve had platforming in recent memory.
Iām not sure how it stacks up against Kero Blaster, which Iāll certainly have to replay soon to do a proper compare and contrast.
Next up, Iām going to play MGS1 for the first time. I have the HD collection on the ps3 but Iād need to open it up, clean out the fan, and reapply the thermal paste so it stops running like a jet engine. Maybe the PC remaster is the way to go?
Reminder to maybe flip your power cable
Definitely opening it up and cleaning it is also a very good thing to do for a 15-20 year old piece of hardware.
Lately I have been playing Onimusha and Onimusha 2 on the Switch. The first one is nice in terms of atmosphere although not that great playwise (itās a big step down from Devil May Cry, for example). But itās super short and I donāt regret having spent a few hours to play it.
The second one has much better graphics and environments, better mechanics, is more fun to play and has more charismatic characters. For me at least, itās time well spent.
Can anyone comment on Onimusha 3? I have read some contrasting opinions so I would like a SelectButtā take ![]()
gimmick! 2 is extremely good and crazy difficult. it also has the most incredible achievement ratios with 13%(!!!) of players getting the true ending which requires some serious star tech bullshit. like, most games are lucky if 13% of players get past the first level! honestly i found these statistics deeply encouraging cos like that means the freaks are out there dude u just gotta find em. hopefully i will be able to get them to play my games.
i also beat robocop rogue city which whips but i was slightly disappointed to discover that the full-auto + infinite ammo pistol setup that i landed on very early in was actually an extremely easy-to-find bug! i thought the game was just wonderfully maximalist and generous until like the second-to-last level when i finally swapped setups and couldnāt swap back. i decided to reproduce the bug and continue as if it were intended cos it sure made the game very fun and silly in a way that i was really craving.
unfortunately that means the two games iāve been wasting time with are now both done within a day of each other so iām going to have to work out what to do with myself⦠maybe iāll go back to koudelkaā¦

Nice, I installed Gimmick 2 on the Switch but I still havenāt tried it. You convinced me ![]()
Gimmick 2 is good
I really like Onimusha 1 as a quick game. When I tried 2 I did not like the pacing. 3 abandons all Resident Evil and is just an action game with Jean Renoās likeness but not voice. I liked at the time (2005.)
Who knows what I would think now.
2 also using the likeness of a dead actor always bugged me as well.
I got 7 badges and beat Lysander for the first time, 13 hours in. Lysander is absurd even by pokemon villain standards. Just calling the entire world on the phone and saying sorry but I have to kill everyone now.
I played through all of Aria and now Dawn of Sorrow, too. I was ready for Dawn to be a huge downgrade, but Iām happy to report that the only thing to be grievously marred were the character portraits. I love the snowy entrance to the evil villain lair. When Soma jumps on top of a parked van, the snow falls off the roof. Itās beautiful.
Thereās also a cryptid-chasing side task Soma can read about in the papers. Little breadcrumbs can lead you to finding a yeti or mothman under specific conditions. I really liked using the guillotine soul. It has a really satisfying crunch that delays ever so little after launching. I adore that thereās a soul that allows Soma to recover health by sitting in a chair. Itās just nice to see him relax for a bit.
I started Portrait of Ruin and it seems like it might be a little too big. Idk, Iāll report back later. For now, Iāll say this is the hardest one Iāve played yet and the bosses are really well designed. Iām still getting the hang of playing as two characters. I love that the lady fights with books. Iām just piercing people with Don Quixote over and over again. The last game over I had was against Cleopatra and she charmed my boy so that he would just wail on me instead of her.
Onimusha 1 and 2 are the strongest in the franchise, 1 for mostly nailing down the fixed camera melee combat design, and 2 for building on top of the mechanical and storyline pacing design. 3ās a middle point between 1 and 2 that feels a lot like Parasite Eve 2 to me. Feels more like a movie in its pacing than the short manga run that 1&2 were paced like. My understanding is that, because Jean Reno was so enthusiastic about the project, they expanded the Paris section, and it does feel different from the rest of the game as a result.
4 felt like it was a vanity movie made by the actor who plays the main character with plot that struggles to justify itself beyond existing for the character to pass through.
i think i just learned something today that i wasnāt supposed to.
