yeah he specifically said they were making room on the soundtrack for new stuff because like…well as you pointed out these guys kids don’t listen to fucking 2000s nu metal and the audience is way different
‘likes the Tony hawk soundtracks’ used to be a dating red flag for me
finally figured out how to actually do gba integration in dolphin, so i thought i would do a quick battle in pokemon colosseum with some of my pokemon emerald creatures. turns out quick battle mode starts at level 50, which none of my pokemon are, so i lost pretty quick. but still, technology is awesome sometimes because it will let me do cool shit like this.
because solo battle only allows three pokemon to be used, i picked my sceptile (named after david bowie), vigoroth (named after orange cassidy), and hariyama (named after akebono), and got their shit rocked by a shroomish.
Finished Rise of the Tomb Raider. It’s weird how the end game has some very strange bugs that you think would have been caught…I dunno. In that year of Xbox exclusivity? When it got ported to PS4 and PC? In the decade or so since? Most can be resolved by reloading a checkpoint (thanks, invisible warrior who shoots an arrow over and over when I try to man the trebuchet), but there’s some wonky geometry here and there that led to some…seemingly undeserving deaths.
Anyway, I enjoyed it. Much better game than 2013. Also indelibly a game that came out around 2015, since the end credits start playing a Karen O song, haha.
why are we talking about my anatomy in here
i think i’ve said this before so apologies for repeating myself, but yeah, i once booked/hosted a show where Gupi was on the bill, and Tony Hawk came by the venue and he was like, the nicest person. he had a crew of people with him and he insisted on paying the door fee for all of them, and then he tipped all the tippable workers that night really well.
to emphasize how rare this, even the most unknown dumbass artists will try to get in 50 of their closest friends for free to a show, so Tony going out of his way to make sure everyone got paid meant a lot.
When this was announced my main worry was that with a new dev in charge all the extra challenges added into THPS 1 & 2 that were IMO the Remaster’s greatest argument for existing were unlikely to make it to the follow-up, and while they still added some the degree which it is apparently cut down is rather depressing. Then it turned out that they had no good idea how to handle THPS 4 on a budget and this really would have been better off as all the THPS 3 stages as DLC for 1 & 2 instead.
I would be more sad about those going away if I could regularly break 250,000 points on any given level lol.
I think depressingly cut down is a good way to describe a game that had a pretty good chance of never coming out after vicarious visions was sent to the cod mines
Playing Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (the Steam port) and it is quite charming! Fairy tale adventure game with an almost-vestigial strategy RPG and monster catching layer (huh?) and very cute character designs. I never played it before now (I got into NIS games with La Pucelle and Disgaea) so it’s been fun trying out something that shows the direction NIS would later go but which eschews the grind-heavy gameplay.
Also I love the sprite work so much. Bring back cute sprites…
Took some nice screenshots from the opening of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the beginning part in Cozumel during Dia de los Muertos, but…why are you gonna have a button for taking a screenshot that keeps the photo mode UI on it? C’mon…
Why would you do this to me, Crystal Dynamics…
Anyway, this is the face I made when I found 3/4 of my screenshots covered in UI.
Edit: This is also a weird case of a newer game that seems to run a lot better than its predecessor did on my computer. I’m sure it’s just better optimized (I’m also sure I’ll have to turn down the settings when I get to the jungle portion of the game), it just always catches me off guard when that happens.
Question: Never Winter Nights 2 and all expansions have come out for Switch 2.
How do they hold up (especially Mask of the Betrayer) today?
base game is really bad but I’m about to replay mask of the betrayer to determine if my affection for it is just nostalgia or not
Great! I will wait for your assessment
I think I’m the biggest Banjo Kazooie fan on this forum (even included it in the top 100) so the following should be read in a man with a burger falling out of his mouth talking about an N64 Romhack.
BK Nostalgia 64 is really good so far. The effort on display is astounding. That it (so far) took Yoshi’s Story and Mario 64 and made good Banjo Kazooie levels out it blows my mind. It is full of thoughtful placement. The Nostalgia has caught me with a smile on my face a few times.
It is a BK game so I am going to be required to do all the bullshit. Which that is what I sign up for. I can tell there are also secrets upon secrets buried in this game. I want to go try the dev’s like 6 other Banjo romhacks of various lengths. It is daunting. The one absolute Banjo hacking madman is also competent at level design???
It hasn’t been overly difficult so far but you do need to be a BK sicko to remember the full moveset from the first game.
The writing is as good as Rare would have written. And it is brief.
I did spend 20 minutes trying to find the last musical notes in Jolly Roger Bay because I couldn’t remember the exact move needed to break a door so the 3 failed times I tried I just assumed I couldn’t.
Also there is now a site that you just drop your legal dumped rom and then it can patch from a dropdown menu like 30 different romhacks for it? That’s WILD.
The N64 compiler optimizations are getting really good. Im not into banjo but Im really excited for future hacks and homebrew for the system.
Rise of the golden idol got a 3rd DLC pack. The DLC packs have ruled. It never gets old getting introduced to a bunch of new characters in situ, and figuring out who the Mastermind is.
The 3rd DLC takes place in an ancient civilization that developed advanced technology, a cliché, yet since the base game has a strong 70s setting and vibe, the 3rd DLC get this ridiculous Jetsons-esque vision of advanced technology like :
- a teleport gun that farm workers manually use to teleport fruits to giant baskets. It looks like this
- A flying saucer with oversized cartoon levers inside
Etc
This game takes place in the same universe as the (more grounded) Case of the Golden Idol. But I’m sure if Case of the Golden Idol had shown that Ancient Advanced Civilization first, the technology would have been vastly different (more normal)
And that’s beautiful. Aesthetic coherence mattering more than coherent world building
Sonic Mania (PS4); Dragon Quest XI (Switch)
started (then quit and deleted) new games in both of these today
honestly don’t know why i even bother
is deltarune a completed product now?
not even close
So apparently in the emails EA sends people who make it into the Skate. pre-alpha playtests it says you are barred from discussing it at all, even in forums like this.
I guess this means that if someone finally got in and wanted to say that the base skating engine still is roughly as solid as ever, or that at least the initial city isn’t as well done as the prior games but still seems to work, or that while long term is a question it is experienceable as a single player game even if it is now a live service deal, they could not.
I guess they wouldn’t want anyone to say that the emphasis on climbing stuff is kinda silly and out of place, like who needs assassin’s creed building climbing in a skateboarding game. Also a lot more bright and colorful in comparison to before, which I’m sure will be criticized by some.
But this is a shame! No one would be free to say that of their range of expectations this was towards the better end, that while the live service aspect feels like a potentially eventual killer (which people have thought this whole time and is free from the actual playtest discussion) people who enjoyed the prior games should perhaps let hope enter their hearts as while it may be trending towards the least of the four games it appears to remain very solid.
But I guess no one can say that >_>
