Games that will likely never get a fan translation

Games that will never get a fan translation because they’re too obscure or the game would simply be too difficult to translate.

Tokimeki Memorial

There’s a lackluster translation of the SNES port, but that cuts the game down a lot. Apparently the PS1 original is near impossible to translate due to the way it’s coded.

RockBoard: That’s Paradise
for Game Boy

The NES version has a fan translation, but the unreleased Game Boy version is probably too obscure.

SEGAgaga 4ever

it’ll get a full translation someday though, peeps have been chipping away at it for years. idk i used to have Moon and Linda³ pegged as games that would never have translations so like, never say never

probably the oddball King’s Field dungeon crawler mobile games. any mobile games from the period before those were codified into casual puzzlers

Isn’t the actual original release on PC-Engine CD?

You’re right. Apparently that version also has issues keeping a translation from being made.

Shinkai Densetsu Meremanoid (1999)

Simply too obscure, too jank. Based on an anime that never got translated either.

This game seems to be more obscure than the other AC games so not that many know about it, and even less people know that there was a ps2 release.

EDIT: ok I’ve been (pleasantly) tipped that there IS a translation in the works tho I wanna kinda say its funny to me that it’s existence is about as obscure as any info about the game itself on the net

i think meremanoid has a chance. it’s weird enough to catch people’s eye, and i think there’s been at least one “look at this weird thing” youtube video about it

i don’t think anyone wants to be known as the group who translated doki doki majo shinpan

I maintain that western audiences simply are not ready for mermaid JRPGs yet and I fear they never will. This includes our most capable translators. I hope I am wrong about this Loki.

One I am dying to play but likely never will is Ningyo no Rakuin, or Mark of the Mermaid, a Dagon-themed Cthulhu-mythos tactical RPG:

(Unfortunately all that exists as a playthrough is this one guy’s review)

Fans rightly point out that the main character is an all-timer by immediately accepting his girlfriend’s horrific transformation into beastform and choosing love.
