what if I told you the Rare Replay version turns JFG from “we shoved questionable gunplay into a collectathon platformer with a sketchy framerate” to “actually this is just a third person shooter with light metroidvaviasearch-adventure elements”
somehow, a second analog stick and not having your crosshair recenter makes the game a million times more enjoyable
I honestly think Sekiro is a bad game, and my opinion about a game has never been so far off from both the mainstream AND my friends. It’s obviously a ‘me’ thing.
There was so much heated discussion that it showed me, pretty clearly from some specific personal climates, why it could be considered bad!
It mostly boils down to what I will compare with, yes the Soulsborne stuff - for their unflinching demands on the player, even when off putting they have that slower breadth of options available, trial and error, sense of discovery and exploration.
As I put it Sekiro is like “the blade that doesn’t care”
It wants you to get good at handling it the way it wants, and if that grip/hilt and sword dance + aesthetic don’t click something fierce, it does very little else to reward your time or frustration. It kinda just throws everything else to the wayside.
I don’t hate Soulsbourne games but I kinda hate people who love Soulsbourne games because I’m tired of hearing “the game is so demanding, you just gotta play it the way the game wants you to” (especially since I’ve said it a few times myself, ugh), does that count for this thread.
As for games I actually hate, I don’t hate that many games, but Borderlands as a series has got to be up there. Truly atrocious games imo
All the guns feel awful. They have the right sound effects, but the firing effects and animations are weightless to the point of complete disconnection.
Shooting enemies is annoying and boring. most enemies are bullet sponges without hit reacts even when you shoot their critical spot.
Itemization is AWFUL. There’s some cool gun archetypes, like throwing on reload to make a grenade, but none of them have any interesting effects or synergies. You only start feeling cool and good playing the game once you get end-game legendaries (STOP DOING THIS DESIGNERS)
And good lord the story. Love to be face to face with caricatures who deliver stilted edgy-joke dialogue that tells me to kill X guys in Y area.
It’s an amalgam of everything that frustrates me about ARPGs, without the good stuff
