I have never heard of B3313, and my curiosity of what a Mario 64 jump scare rom hack was got the better of me and I looked it up. This is so cute! It’s the kind of creepy stuff little kids get excited about.
The contorted prince bob-omb!!!

What could possibly convince someone to use that run cycle for something you have to see 96% of the time you’re playing the game.
i’m glad more people are getting on the B3313 train.
re: it being too jumpscarey or juvenile, my backloggd review i wrote of it summarizes my feelings about it as best as i can so i won’t try to repeat what i’ve said here.
funny, i was mild on bowser’s fury at first but after going back to it after playing 3d world i enjoyed it a lot more… i really liked finding all the nooks and crannies on the islands, felt more exploratory than 3d world which i thought was super duper solid but… just felt like a super duper solid 3d platformer.
bowser’s attacks do get old fast tho
i need to go play 3d land again, i think i liked that one better because it felt more tight and focused since it didnt have to accomodate three extra players (another thing i liked about bowsers fury, the islands were clearly designed for one person exploring them)
oh i had no idea about this, i am out of the loop! does the new one play old user made maps?
I’ve said it in this thread (or maybe an older iteration of it?) that the most soul-crushing thing in Bowser’s Fury was finishing the game, thinking “oh hell yes now to explore all the nooks and crannies uninterrupted,” and Bowser Jr. immediately telling you upon loading it up “oh hey my dad is mad again for some reason and is going to attack you again.”
I mean, I guess it makes sense, there are those blocks only he can break, but… c’mon. C’mon. Please. C’mon. Ease up. Let me summon his tantrum on command or something. Let me dawdle.
I should try to replay 3D Land…I loved it to death when I played it years ago, but never touched the post game.
I should try some more of the 3D World post game, too.
i am 2 hours into baldr sky and my feelings are that this is very good 2d mech combat game but also i have not managed to latch onto the characters or events in the visual novel i spend most of my time playing. could be a case of coming to this from having finished fmd muramasa in which even the protagonist endeared to me really quickly. the boy protagonist in this case is instead someone i’m secretly wishing the game will unceremoniously kill off while shifting my perspective to literally anyone i’d find interesting.
it could easily be that i’m just not in the mood and i’m in a kind of negativity spiral regarding all this. who knows.
Meanwhile I loaded up my save of Lost Odyssey. I was apparently on Disc 2, in the Crimson Forest. The game is as bad as I remember it. That is to say, unbelievably bad. So bad that I just start twitching when I hear it is good. Just a few of the problems I encountered in the 30 minutes I played:
As @closed told me this is worse than Blue Dragon because the beginning of the game gives you a glimmer of hope this is going to be a cool game with cool stuff. Not a game where you’re constantly encumbered dragging yourself from battle to battle so you can stick your hand in a vase and hope you find an item.
it was an enlightening hour (I also spent 30 minutes trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. If I pick up my save in another 5 years I’ll immediately encounter another cutscene to flabegast me). The Last Story is Mistwalker’s best game by default. Both of these are very bad and do not be tricked into playing them.
30-something years after my ma bought it for me ex-rental, Keio Flying Squadron 2 is pretty quaint, a bit stiff, but still one of my favourite oddities.
Zexion seems to embrace the flailing, awkward, claustrophobic combat side of Metroid over the brooding, solemn atmosphere. Playing it for a few hours made me realise I value the latter more.
I thought you said this was bad
I went as soon as the split screen started
oh yeah, the protagonist and his bestie in baldr sky, had in the short time i’ve played it a convo basically going “remember when you thought that dude you were hitting on was a girl? lmao” “please don’t remind me”, long before establishing reasons for me to find them interesting, so maybe my experience of them is also colored by this
I must not have made the connection any of the other times I’ve played this game. I can’t believe the main camera inspiration is Snake Eyes.
My first thought was Ang Lee’s Hulk
I value the former just as much so I’ll give it a try!
The best kind of negative review are the ones that make me realize this is actually my jam
once again someone plays lost odyssey and doesnt get past the worms (or you know, doesnt know how to get past the worms because their save is past it)
but thats fine i wholeheartedy agree with shelters post about it
WHAT DOES THE TILE MAX STAR MEAN IN I ROBOT
I got to the star stages in Mario’s Picross at last.
There absolutely was one in the first row where I had to make a leap of faith but it was based on the image seemingly being mostly symmetrical. Still anticipating this game totally falling apart for me but so far it’s still doing what I need it to.
citizen sleeper’s core mechanics were solid enough to get me invested but the reverse difficulty curve and fake consequences really turn it into busywork. writing isn’t really there either regardless of how well-intentioned it is, both on a moment-to-moment level and as sci fi. disappointing i guess. easy to imagine a stronger version of it that doesn’t demand a much larger budget. not really invested enough to try the sequel
hard out here for anyone trying to find the mythical “good videogame writing.” spending the opening dungeon of planescape doing echolalia of I UPDATED MY JOURNAL
the worm has made most of us useless
