I never would have guessed that was the name of a basketball game

1 on 1 government!!!

Oh, I thought the style looked familiar somehow. Developer Jorudan also did Baskelian.

Hm, not much to choose from in videos for that one…

I think the end part of the title is actually ā€œThe Basket: ~ 1 on 1 Plus ~.ā€ That’s what GameFAQs and Giant Bomb say, anyway. Until now I always thought it was ā€œPressā€ instead of ā€œPlusā€ā€“like ā€œpressingā€ on defense or something, I dunno. = P

I used to have this disc! I think I kind of liked the game. ^ _^

Jurodan had their own funky basketball game series going:

1998 - 1 on 1 (PS1, PS3 JP PSN)

1999 - 1 on 1 Government (arcade) - sequel to 1 on 1

2000 - Simple 1500 Series Vol. 30: The Basket - 1 on 1 Plus (PS1) - port of the arcade game

2003 - Baskelian (PS2)

The original 1 on 1 for PS1 is still available on the PS3 JP PSN store for about $4. I had just over that left on my JP PSN account, so…guess I’ll see how I like this prequel!

I remember a 3DO game that looked just like this called Slam 'n Jam '95 that looked just like this I had to check if it was the same game renamed for a different territory but I guess it’s just a knock off

A knock-off of the first Run and Gun (says Mobygames)–SnJ’95 was 1996 and Run and Gun II didn’t come out until '96. Slam 'n Jam looks pretty decent graphically in its own right–a bit more attractive than Run and Gun, at first glance:

I was thinking about buying some arcade archives games on switch for portability, but at least for Xexex the audio channels/samples get all weird & out of sync, but seems like not on PS4. this never occured to me when I was having the issue with TGM2 on switch so I went and checked, but ps4 sounds the same on that one, maybe infinitesimally better but…I wonder why nobody else complains about this. it’s really hit or miss with those guys…

1 on 1 has the sorta rock/paper/scissors-as-action-buttons decision making approach to gameplay that 1 on 1 Plus has–but way fewer characters, and it’s half-court rather than full court so if there’s a steal, it resets to mid-court with the players reversed; also doesn’t have Plus’ 2-on-2 mode.

MobyGames credits 1 on 1’s ā€œCharacter Design & Story Conceptā€ to Takehiko Inoue, the creator of manga series ā€œVagabondā€ and ā€œSlam Dunk.ā€ Man, I really liked the art in Vagabond.

Playing it as a downloadable game for PS3 through RPCS3 is a pretty terrible way to experience it, visually. ; D Super chunky and there’s like, crazy interlace-style artifacting going on. But hey, $4, which I had left over in my JP PSN account. ^ _^

More stupid PS1 on PS3 stuff ; )

(And then I went on and splurged $4 more x2 on Konami Antiques MSX Vol.1 (for Antarctic Adventure OH which I was confusing with the sequel, Penguin Adventure, but that’s okay (that’s in Vol 3 which is NOT on PSN and is even more silly expensive on eBay, maybe because Kojima pitched ideas for it for a month at the start of his game career?)) and Sunsoft Vol.1 (Super Arabian)–which are SUPER blurry in PS3/RPCS3. ; DDD But also kinda super-expensive on eBay, so…hah?) (Arcade version of Arabian is of course in Arcade Archives for modern-ish consoles. The wider-screen PS1 version is kinda funky. Super Arabian and Antarctic Adventure are also on Famicom! But the Famicom sound at least for AA isn’t nearly as nice. Oh hm but PS1 Super Arabian is basically just a port of the Famicom version, which is super-cheap on eBay. Aha!)

I think the PS1 Simple Series game (May 2000) is a port of the arcade version–which various sources such as GameFAQs (1999), Giant Bomb (1999), and Kotaku (Jan 31st 2000) date earlier; and Giant Bomb explicitly says the PS1 version is a later port of the arcade version https://www.giantbomb.com/1-on-1-government/3030-37284/

Also, the title screen for the PS1 version’s 1-on-1 mode says ā€œ1 on 1 Governmentā€ in the background. ^ _^

Man, the move list for this game is pretty wild (lovely HTML FAQ, too):

Quarter circle moves! It’s a doggone joystick game! = ooo

Trying to end the stupid long game buying spree I’ve been on for months now but the sole US seller was in my state and had it with 10 other Simple 1500 Series games for under $30 shipped, for some crazy reason. Oh just take my money then. = ooo

This is the best looking sports sim I’ve ever seen. I truly wish I had the knowledge of both baseball and Japanese so I could play it.

OH You can get an ISO (bin & cue) usable in DuckStation from a PS3 PS Store PS1 game using PSXtract2021: GitHub - Mr-Berzerk/PSXtract2021: This is a 2021 version of Hykem's PSXtract built to work on x64 Windows 10. I've also attempted to merge in as many forks of the original as possible. (cmd: psxtract -c eboot.pbp).

Edit: although there’s a bug that it doesn’t extract additional tracks, so if a game is multi-track, you only get the first track. Not sure how many PS1 games are. I ran into it with Namco Museum Vol. 1 (from the JP store; it ain’t on the US store anymore as far as I can tell, thanks for not being clearly up to date on the US store Wikipedia : P); the tracks that don’t get dumped are audio tracks, apparently, so that doesn’t really matter since they’re just for menu/museum modes or something as far as I can tell.

Edit again: updated version that converts additional CD audio tracks correctly: GitHub - has207/psxtract-2: Psxtract by Hykem
