Full-Life

I think some people if not ported it to PC at least made a pretty faithful recreation using ripped assets of it that you can download (oh wow, the Facepunch forums were shut down just last month, damn)

Iā€™m convinced these HL memes are a guerrilla marketing tactic for the possible HLVR reveal.

i love how half life memes are almost as prevalent as mario 64 and minecraft ones

i love calling half life the new mario to piss ppl off

HL2 reminded me more of Mario 64 in a ā€œjump around a series of imaginative playgrounds/coursesā€ kind of way that it did of the other shooters Iā€™d played at the time

So I will accept it as the true successor to Mario 64 and join your crew of agitators

I guess characters in HL2 games havenā€™t been able to blink their eyes for 5 years. They recently released a patch, which has restored blinking.

thank god its been literally unplayable

But seriously if Valve can fix this I would also like them to fix the broken pickup UI and the broken lighting in HL2 and EP1

i had a hankering to play through these so im currently doing Half-Life the 1st

Both these games are kinda sloppy maybe not great shooters (i always play on easy because everything is already a stupid bullet sponge) but they are both excellent at creating the kind of frenetic chaos that i love in an FPS. if you play seemingly as intended, just running scared from one thing to another (and quicksaving a LOT), it makes Gordon Freeman seem like Mr Magoo with guns instead of any kind of badass nerd hero figure

and i appreciate their commitment to making you climb around debris and crawl into vents and under things even when itā€™s a little awkward/boring to play. I dunno, thatā€™s something that weirdly appeals to me in games, it feels like urban exploration. Iā€™d play a version of HL2 where you just climb and crawl and jump around an empty City 17 for hours

Also i love that everything in HL1 explodes into big chunky gibs including Gordon

HL1 also has fairly realistic explosion radiuses for some reason. Like if you blow up a soda machine you better get the hell back or get gibbed.

the right man in the wrong place can make all the difffference

i like that the explosives in 2 are more forgiving, but add in the muted sounds/ears ringing/blurred vision to really pump up the disorientation and make lots of explosions going off around you still feel scary

Not sure I would describe a malfunctioning soda machine having the deadly effect of an IED as ā€œrealisticā€, but it does rule

that thing gave me the best jumpscares

I can just picture somebody trying to fulfill ā€˜make it scaryā€™ at 2 in the morning by just giving up and flipping the animation speed to 300%, it works so well // or, a designer absolutely abusing art assets in service of a specific mood, and winning

Heh, youā€™re right. Itā€™s been a while.

Remember HL Uplink? That was probably better than any chapter in the base game.

Yeah it was like a greatest hits compilation of most of the different setpieces in the main game, but compacted way down into a short experience.
