i did not say such a thing!
oh i didnât mean you, sorry!
I was bummed that they didnât use the female as the DQIV model in Smash. The male version is way less cool looking
Itâs so weird how I look at this and immediately think âwow this is so animeâ because I guess by default I donât think of Toriyamaâs style as âanimeâ I just think of it as âToriyamaâ
thatâs understandable. itâs pretty distinct! my partner (who otherwise likes some anime) doesnât really care for his style because of the âhuge foreheads,â which iâm pretty sure is really just dbz⌠but anyhow, what i really love about the earlier dq designs is how even toriyama was part of that whole style of unrealistic but gorgeous armor/clothing and weapon design, which is totally also a thing inomata did in genmu senki leda, windaria, tales of⌠etc.
hey are we celebrating other artistâs takes on dragon quest because Kamui Fujiwaraâs Emblem of Roto manga is a really interesting halfway point between his usual artstyle and Toriyama designs.
You sure that one isnât really final fantasy?
if you think thatâs final fantasy, you should get a load of the dragon quest crest of roto OVA!
Sorry VIII stans, but purple turban > red bandana* all day, donât @ me
*: VIII protag so boring to me that I had to go look up what color his most boring of hatwear is. It might be last place, behind even the DQI heroâs helmet, but definitely behind VIIâs green cap and IVâs finned headgear. Oh wait, I donât even remember what the VI protag looks like, so that is probably last.
Oh most definitely VI is last place, though still respect the color choices. This dudeâs hat is âgokuâ.
Eight is the best protagonist, if not for the bandanna, then for the little mouse he carries around with him.
Sorry, but even in animal sidekicks, DQV hero wins again with his Sabertooth Tiger sidekick who is an actual character in the game (plus, if we are just counting things sitting on their shoulder, a dragon).
Youâre just not gonna convince me that âdresses in primary colorsâ has anything on this look.
sorry but all dq protagonists look fucking lame and weâre simply arguing about levels of lameness here, so, fuck it.
villain
i love the DQVIII protagonistâs outfit. def big into the primary colors (whatâs more perfect for a big bright colorful game like dqviii) and the perfect cross between adventure ready and casual. That yellow jacket vest thing looks tight af and i dig the stitching along the hem.
DQVâs protag is certainly also really cool, that deep purple turban/cloak with the staff is one of the more uniquely classy looks ive seen on an RPG protagonist and i love that itâs one of the subtle hints that heâs not The Hero along with his class being âbeast tamerâ. Heâs not a sword-wielding legendary hero, heâs a sword-wielding legendary heroâs dad
Those two and the already discussed DQIV heroine are my favorite DQ hero designs. Honorable mention goes to the Prince of Lorasiaâs Nausicaa cosplay
want to be clear these strongly held DQ fashion opinions are just my own and im not arguing with anyone, because not every difference of opinion on this forum needs to be treated as a goddamn argument
DQ11 protagonist would be way cooler if they had bangs and was full-on Prince Valiant
Donât bother disagreeing with me you know Iâm right about this
everyone always talking about which dragon quest has the best quest, but have we ever stopped to consider which one has the best dragon
i really love the dqxi hero designâŚ
weâre really early in this game (playing for half an hour or so as an end of day treat every few days) but i like it a lot so far and iâm excited to spend the next year or two working through it at a cozy pace. i hope koichi sugiyama dies soon.
thoughts on this which iâm gonna spoiler tag because i talk about dq11, so maybe donât read unless youâve finished it: in dq3, stumbling upon ortega fighting a dragon just to watch him fight a hydra and die without even stepping in to help⌠itâs really bizarre. theyâve basically redone the idea better in later games (papas/pankraz in 5 always seemed kinda like ortega but youâre there with him when he dies + a helpless child instead of a party of heroes) and dq11 doesnât miss its chance to echo that.
now, i⌠donât really have a point, here, but i wanted to talk about the possibility of a dq3 remake in light of how dq11 ends. iâd hope theyâd handle ortegaâs real death a bit differentlyâlike, you arrive to see the echo of his death, a vision⌠or something new. what if they let you save him in a remake? i mean, since helplessly watching your father die (or arriving to free his spirit) has been done. idk. just thoughts. theyâve hinted that this might actually be happening, soâŚ
anyhow. that fuckin dq11 ending tho
for multi line spoilers you gotta have the spoiler tags on their own lines. Your opening spoiler tag is at the end of a line instead of its own line.
