Yeah, IV DS was actually the first DQ game I ever played, but I donât recall that being an option! Perhaps Iâll revisit it someday
Being able to change the appearance of your hero and have all equipment be visible is 100% why DQIX is my favorite.

i love this design. that weird single half-tight shouldnât work, and yet somehow it does. i kinda wish she got the Dragovian helm like the (much blander) male hero does but it is really cool that her hair creates a similar wing-shaped silhouette
Also while i dislike Toriyamaâs digital work compared to his old/traditional stuff (the shading/lighting always looks off to me, especially with his thick outlines) the manâs color schemes remain good as hell
his shading is the worst. it makes everything look super ghetto. go back to markers, yo.

also, speaking of rehashing character designs, man.
i feel like the two most popular aspects of dragon quest, which are akira toriyama and that old fuck sugiyama, are the worst things about it.

i love Toriyamaâs artwork and ive never minded that he reuses designs, because his style is so uniquely his. i mean, Tezuka got away with it and all he did was say âuhhhh, theyâre recurring actors. Yeah, thatâs itâ

wish he had fehashed his female thief design. the male thief is so goddamn goofy. i would never make a male thief knowing they look like king fucking doofus.
I am convinced the only reason dq11 doesnât have a customizable protagonist and appearance change effects for all garments is so they can still wow us with something in dq12

dq12 will star a slime, and you get to choose what color, and you can have a mohawk.

that you get an appearance change for each character once every 10 hours or so works so well though
DQ11 feels like the only game that knows how long it is

also i feel like everyone compares the luminary to trunks while i see android 18
(though a18âs hair is parted more to the side, which is better)

also i mean almost the entire cast of dq11 is revisions of familiar npc designs. sylvando looks like a much more handsome version of the bartenders found in dq8, which themselves were based on earlier spritesâŠ
