FUCK YEAH DRAGON QUEST (Part 1)

I associate it with simple snappy combat – Paper Mario is in the same vein but a bit purer, with numbers so small and controlled that they can build tighter challenges and can ask the audience to predict several turns into the future.

agree but i didn’t really understand why so much of the discussion when 11 first released was around the difficulty, as if it’s the primary thing people want from these games

i mean scarlet grace is out soon

(i’m going to make a thread for it)

I think it’s because it actually has a difficulty setting unlike all the rest and it’s a decision you have to live with for the next 60 hours or whatever, and for a game series that was all about trying to make simple progress curves feel rewarding in the first place, it means a lot that it’s as tight as it is

I’ve been pretty vocal that 11 has done a lot of things right to make me like it considerably more than any other DQ that was localized when it was contemporary after like, 1992, and this is definitely one of them

Yeah it’s less that I want to make the game hard and more than I have an active anxiety in most JRPGs that I’m over-leveling and trivializing a piece of the game that can be enjoyable if tuned correctly.

yeah it was definitely because of that option

my experiences ranged from beating the last boss when emulating dqiv nes on literally the turn before all of my resources were going to be gone and being just floored that the balance was so perfect to being very sad that dqix could be just totally sleepwalked through, so finding out how the xi hard mode felt was a big question for me

ftr i definitely don’t begrudge anyone wanting to just hang out too

that tougher monsters difficulty couldn’t have been tuned any better as far as i’m concerned though, god damn

i think i just didn’t feel like the hard mode was actually good, i started on hard and it felt more like a working designs ‘we put all the numbers up!!!’ hard mode vs how perfect nocturne’s is

besides this bullshit obviously

mate am i gonna have to play it again and re-evaluate this???

I do not even particularly like jRPGs or dragon quest, I haven’t tried with it off, I’m only about seven hours in, and finding it perfect

yeah and i’m here to say that this game does not work at all in 3D, especially with the changes they made to it. Lemme dig up my old post, hold on

Best of all I was able to hit the main endboss phase 2 as a dragged-out cycle of rotating dead party members, exhausted MP phials, and just a turn or two of hits to tank – I beat it within 2 turns of death in an hour-long fight. An incredible setup and debuff standoff.

yes my main endboss fight was right down to the wire too, which really is pretty unbelievable for yeah a fuckin 45 minute+ jrpg fight

haha oh man i’m excited for xi s

In 3ds Dragon Quest VII during any visit to a town, doors you’ve entered are shown as open and doors you haven’t gone in are closed. It’s a small touch that makes navigating towns a lot easier.

Is there a postgame where your father informs you that you don’t live in a barn, and have to go and close the doors of every single person throughout time while also apologizing for your thoughtless behavior?

On which system are you playing it? Switch, PC, PS4?

I’ve started Dragon Quest VIII. Gotta go after that evil jester.

if there’s nobody on etsy selling these already then maybe you found your calling – selling slime glasses. a slime glass magnate.

:waynestare:

most of the results for “slime glass” are actually weed pipes.
